I have to get the stone removed from my salivary gland at the end of the month. He has to go down and cut the gland to try to release the stone.

I have to be under anethesia so it will be done at the hospital.

If this doesn't work, I have to get the whole gland removed, which I 100% want to avoid happening.

The stone isn't releasing on it's own because it's way too deep inside the gland.

Just thought I would let everyone know.

It has become so painful again.

(((SunAngel))) - I'm sorry you're in pain from this. I saw this condition on TV several months ago and I never heard of it before. Do you know what causes these stones to develop and is there any way to prevent them - I'm curious for my own knowledge. I hope you don't have to have the whole gland removed and I pray the procedure works the easier way. Let us know how it goes.

Omg, how scary. where are those glands exactly, i'll have to google it. one time I was using flonase or something, and then while I was brushing my teeth afterward some white thing came out of a little hole under my tongue which I assume was the flonase and some sort of gland orifice - I was just HORRIFIED - I thought aliens had taken over, okay not quite but almost, it was so freakin bizarre. obviously I have never been pregnant or had anything worse than a nosebleed happen to me. So do they have any idea what caused it? Is it like a kidney stone? Or caused by a foreign body or dry mouth? A dental procedure? I've hears of tonsil stones but they seem more surface oriented; this sounds like it's within the gland? Is it just outpatient or are they keeping you?

Thx. Guys.

The stone is caused by dry mouth due to meds. It is an outpatient procedure and it will only take about 45 minutes to an hour to do it.

Hoping it goes well... I think it will to be honest. Is the dry mouth caused by meds? I've had meds left me with a total dry mouth, and it was astonishing how horribly uncomfortable that can be. Have they got any help for you regarding the dry mouth so you don't have to go through this crap again?

Rooting for you over here in England... hope you're well soon.

On the plus side, the soft tissues of the mouth are one of the fastest-healing parts of the body! Just ask anyone who removed tongue piercing jewelry and found it closed over a few hours later...

Hope it goes well with the least possible misery!
