ok was talking to my niece and sister today and i mentioned that my therapist thinks I may be bipolar and out of the blue my niece told me she is diagnosed as bipolar( she does not believe it or so it seems since she made a face) but i do believe it.
Now if she is bipolar and I believe my mom to be(although undiagnosed) what are the chances that I am as well?? I have done some research about it and I do fit some of the "aspects" of it but am not sure. Also how to I tell my doctor what my therapist suspects?????????? ![]() |

Bipolar disorder is genetic. My sister has it ,my aunt, my grandfather and I suspect my mother although she was undiagnosed. As far as telling your doctor. just say Hey my therapist thinks I'm bipolar what do you think ? If you are or not its important to get the right diagnosis so you know where to go from there with medication and such.

Could your therapist talk to your pdoc. That's what they do where I am from. Makes it a little easier.

There is always the option of having your T write a note to your pdoc, or printing out the first page of this thread and handing it to your pdoc. The simplest way would be as grandma suggested, just casually say it. "I have a question..."

Hi Mikita. I recommend you check out psycheducation.org for really good info about the 'soft signs' of bipolar, written by a psychiatrist. I've found it really enlightening.
