Supposed to help with gaining weight. Supposedly works better if started at same time as Zyprexa. Pdoc said I've been steadily gaining since October- when I was put on Zyprexa.

It is being tried for weight gain due to antipsychotics.

It is for diabetics to help keep their weight down. The only problem I have heard about getting this is because the patient doesn't have diabetes and insurance companies refuse to pay for it because of this.

I am glad you got to go on it. I think they should give this to all patients who gain weight from meds.

It's a great idea. Good thing your pdoc is up on the latest research.

I hope it works for you. I've been on metformin for years for my diabetes and it did not seem to stop me from gaining weight.

What about topamax, it is also used as a mood stabilizer and to help lose weight. Pdoc and I have decided to add this on my next visit.

The problem with topamax is that it makes most people stupid. It makes you really spacey, and you forget words. I really want to lose weight, but I wouldn't be able to stand the cognitive side-effects of the topamax...I need my brain to be in tip-top shape.

But if you are happy being skinny and dumb...by all means go on the topamax! LOL.
