10 months ago I took Cymbalta while in the hospital and it was ok at first but I got so depressed after a while of painful depression I took 3 blood pressure pills to try to take my life. I am ok now-I am taking effexor and this took care of my depression.

Does anyone have similiar scary experiences?

No, Cymbalta is an SNRI and works as an antidepressant. Cymbalta is unlikely to have caused your depression... it was probably breakthrough depressive episode because Cymbalta wasn't working for you.

I've never taken it but on all those commercials for it they say if your symptoms become worse you should tell your doctor.

Cymbalta worked for my depression for several years, and then the bottom fell out. I went into a deep depression. The withdrawal of going off the cymbalta was horrible. Six months later I think I am stable, taking wellbutrin, lamictal, and klonopin.

...cymbalta made me more psychotic. I became obsessed with suicidal and homicidal thoughts. I felt like I was in orbit...chemically rewired to have an entirely new and disturbing type of depression. I have a history of adverse reactions to antidepressants, but cymbalta was the worst. I ended up in hospital and a psych ward following self injury and I couldn't get off it quick enough!

some people cannot take meds like that....just a few have a seriously bad reaction, and I'm one of them.

there is a list of potential side effects on the CMI... I think most people can usually check off a few in there.

there is another list of more serious side effects. this is the list to pay most attention to I reckon. There is a reason these side effects are in there...it's astonishing!....but it's true

worsening of your depression
thoughts or talk of death or suicide
thoughts or talk of self-harm or harm to others
any recent attempts of self-harm
increase in aggressive behaviour, irritability or any other unusual changes in behaviour or mood
