I'm curious- how did you all meet your partners? Did you start dating before or after your bipolar diagnosis? I'd just like a little encouragement in this area of my life right now; thanks.

Secretum,

My wife and I met at work and married 3 1/2 years later. I was not diagnosed bipolar at the time. After we had been married for 5 months, I had brain surgery for removal of a tumor. I was diagnosed with Major Depression shortly thereafter. I was not diagnosed as bipolar for 8 long years.

Although we have had our ups and downs, my wife has been the trooper, and has handled all of the disadvantages of having a spouse with a severe mental illness with true grace. I could not have made it through all the severe ups and downs without her help and guidance.

My hope for you is that you find that special person who loves you unconditionally and will be there for you during the ups and downs of bipolar disorder. He is out there. Just don't quit looking.

And by the way, think positively about yourself because I know that you are a terrific person who just happens to have a mental illness.
Thanks for this!
forever, Secretum
