A few days ago I was outside with my boys. My 5 year old was playing on his slide and playset, and I was just trying to enjoy the warm day, walking the baby around the yard, but feeling very aggitated and anxious, I wasn't well. This was Monday, which was a bad day. My 5 year old called me over because out cat was on the other side of the fence in my aunt's yard. He was talking about our cat and going on and on. When all of a sudden A woman's voice right beside me on my right side, over my shoulder, laughed and said words in a language I couldn't understand. Her voice was clear as a bell, as if she was standing inches from my ear.
I jumped a little but didn't scream, just tried to ignore it because I didn't want to scare the kids. I can't seem to shake it. Anyone else ever have auditory halucinations which are clear but you can't understand what was said?

That must have been really scary for you. I have only heard a voice during sleep paralysis. I, however have had visual hallucinations and they are very scary.
I am sorry that happened to you. I don't think I would be able to shake that either. ((((Hugs))))

This isn't my first hallucination.
![]() ![]() When I was about 19 - 20 years old I used to hear the phone ringing when it wasn't. It would ring for hours and hours. I also had a visiual hallucination of a playground. (weird, I know.) Nothing scary visually though. Thank goodness. ![]()

Sometimes, yes. I really does shake me up. I kept hearing one last summer, like you said just over my shoulder, loud scary mans voice, that one I could clearly hear what he said " you'll find out soon enough" ugggh! That really had me shaken for quite a while. The paranoia definitely set in that time. Sometimes there are multiple voices, and some are not speaking English, I know how creepy that feels.
Keep in mind that it's just coming from you. I've had some very scary voices over the years, ones calling me to come in the house when I'm walking up my street, ya doesn't make me want to actually go in the house. I don't know if I'd rather understand what they say or not understand. Both can be frightening. Are auditory hallucinations common for you? Agh just saw your reply.hearing voices is common even in healthy individuals, if you google voice hearers. Just so you don't get too alarmed. |

I've had them before but not often. After the ringing phones in my late teens, it was over ten years. December is the first one I've had in ten years, now this. I don't know what to think.

Here is an interesting article on phantom phone ringing. This article is talking about cell phones, but I'm pretty sure that is doesn't matter what type of phone. I hear text msgs, phone ringing, knocks at my door. These things all give me a certain amount of low anxiety, maybe that's why I hear them. That's not the best article, but there are plenty of articles on " ringxiety ". It's really hard to sort out what's what with hallucinations. ![]() Do you have any other types of hallucinations, any tactile... Like sensations on the skin or smells? |

The ringing is the most frightening hallucination I've ever had. I've had that "phantom" phone thing with my cell. Like I think I got a text. But, the phone thing was different. It was the house phone, which was in the living room. It was My room > Den > living room to get to the phone.
The first time it happened I had just went to bed, so about ten p.m. I laid down and the phone started to ring. So I got up and walked to the living room. As soon as I stepped into the room the phone stopped ringing, no one on the line. So I went back to bed. As soon as I laid down it started ringing again. So I got up. As soon as I stepped into the living room it stopped. This went on for three hours, and I was crying hysterically by the end of it. There was also a phone next to my dad's bed, the same line. So, I went to his room, still crying hysterically, and woke him up to ask him if the phone had been ringing. It never rang. This would happen again and again over the course of about six months. I think it happened about fifteen times in that six months, then just stopped and never happened again. I get the "crawlies" quite often, or phantom pain. I also do randomly smell things for no reason. But, I am diagnosed with psychosomatism... so, I don't think those are hallucinations necessarily.

Ahh, I see. You know, I went through a period of getting text msgs, and the text window would open on my IPhone. So I could party read it, but as soon as I would pick up my phone to read it, it was gone. And no I don't think that the same as ringxiety either. Like you said with the phone ringing, the ringxiety I think does not appear to be quite as vivid or real as a full on hallucination. At least not for me. When I have hallucinations they are extremely vivid, full tone if auditory, and if visual they are usually very hard to decipher from a real object, or person. I know that some peoples hallucinations are more shadowy or what have you.
I get a feeling of sawing across my face, an honestly that is the worst one I experience, it's very disturbing, usually will last a few weeks or so. Since you have some insight, you can try to use that when this happens, even if the insight doesn't kick in immediately, it find it still helps to keep peice of mind, just knowing that it isn't real. When I really can't tell I use what I would know as probable in reality to bounce off the hallucinations. Like if I see little people in my house or following me in stores, I know that these tiny people do not exist in reality, so it cannot be real. Seems to help me a bit because I can get carried away with this if I don't keep myself in check. thank goodness I have some insight tho. Also when I am experiencing psychosis I find it hard to focus or do much of anything besides think.. So I try to do puzzles or something that is relaxing, distracting, and a bit mind numbing. Helps to keep me calm and not veer to far off. Last edited by Anonymous32507; May 04, 2012 at 12:22 PM. |

Yeah, I know the #1 thing is if I have a hallucination I can't tell my mother-in-law. She has terrible visual hallucinations of demon people. But she thinks they are real. She has no idea she's having hallucinations. She used to see this little evil girl in her house for a long time. So I made the mistake to tell her about the man's voice I heard in December, and she said it must be a demon man in the house.
![]() Oh, I also see a shadow man in our house. He is the same size and shape as my husband, but he's not. Like once I saw him standing in the dark next to our bed. I said my husband's name, and he said, "what?" but he was laying on the bed and the shadow figure just stood there and then melted away. Another time I saw him walking from the kitchen into our room, and my husband was sitting at his desk. Me, my husband, and my mother in law all believe in ghosts and spirits, etc. But at the same time I have to distance myself from it or I can lose my grip. ![]() I once saw a whole playground. I was with my friends and we were in the park. I saw the whole thing, clear as day right in front of us. Then my friend said "what happened to the playground?" I turned to look at her like she was crazy, but when I turned back it was gone. That was back when I was hearing the phones.

I hear voices from time to time, but it's never the stereotype of clear voices telling me to do bad things or anything like that. It's more like overhearing a conversation in the next room - I can hear multiple voices, but can't really make out what they're saying. I can't find any real pattern or trigger behind it. It just happens when it happens, sometimes a lot for a while, then not at all for a while. Not especially disturbing, just annoying.

Okay so...
Yesterday I was driving home. I was at a stop sign waiting to turn right, and there was a pedestrian. He was at the corner and needed to cross where I needed to turn, and there was a car waiting to straight. But the pedestrian was doing one of those confused "Do I wait for the cars or go?" things. Anyway, I was a big annoyed. The driver of the other car was a big dude. From over my left shoulder I hear a woman's voice yell "GO!" in a very annoyed voice. It sounded kind of far away, like the voice at the other end of a tin-can telephone. I looked up expected to see another car behind me with a woman in it, because although far away it definately sounded like "outside" of my head. But no... no other cars. No pedestrians... ![]() Now I am starting to be a bit concerned.

I had two occasions when I heard fandom sounds but each time it happened I was going through some extremely difficult time dealing with loss of my children and both times the sound was of a child crying in the back-round. What your describing sound very, very scary how does anyone deal with that?
I should also add that doth times it did happen I checked myself into a hospital.

I just say to myself, "Not real. No one is there, it can't be real. It's just my head playing tricks."
![]() I've never been to the hospital. (Probably should have been a few times, but I didn't know about it and not like anyone would have thought about taking me.) It didn't really scare me necessarily. I was just very aware of it.

I've heard voices talking and one giving me commands. Nobody ever thought I should be hospitalized.
