When you are feeling great, some people think there is no need to take any pills. Actually, the opposite is true. You have to stay on your prescriptions, especially your mood stabilizers and anti psychotics, so that when the hypo wears off, you don't crash and burn.
It's important to talk to your doc when you become hypo or manic, because some changes may need to be made. For example, the last time I was manic, my pdoc raised my mood stabilizer, and decreased my anti-depressant. That kept the mania from sliding far out of control and landing me in the hospital. As soon as the episode was over, he rearranged my meds again, so I didn't slide down into a dark hole.
