My son suffered a manic episode in May 2004 and was hospitalized for it. He stayed on zyprexa for a year and has now been off for almost a year. He is able to work and seems overall to be doing really well.I worry about him having another episode. How long can you be medication free without worrying about another episode?

That is an unanswerable question, really...some people never have another episode...most do at some point, however. I think that you would find that they tend to occur during periods of high stress, however, so the things I always say are the best sheild...regular sleep, excercise and a good diet, that is basic stress management!
