Hi All
I'm new here and I'm trying to get further information. I am currently seeing a psychiatrist and I have read up on this issues I have as I am convinced I am bipolar as there is a history with bipolar in my family (my father and mothers brother) and also my mother and grandmother have suffered depression very badly. Before seeing my psychiatrist I had read up on bipolar with there being history in the family and both my mum and partner and myself agree I have bipolar but my psychiatrist says I dont have that and just a mood swings issue. I'm here to get further information and to prove that it is bipolar that I have, and to see if there is anyone else that has had the same issue of not being diagnosed? Thanks for listening Danielle |

Can I ask what you experience? What happens with you that makes you feel you have bipolar. While none of us here can tell you if you do or not, we might be able to relate if you share some more info.

I have to agree with Anika on if you share with us how the symptoms affect your everday life we would be able to shere with how we feel if we relate to that. I have found out through many posts that I have posted about Bipolar since I am new as well. That everyone experiences Bipolar on different levels.

Beware of self-diagnosis. As a nurse, I made that mistake years ago, and my primary care doc went along with my wishes....all of which delayed my bipolar diagnosis by a dozen years.
Along with the above posters, I wonder as well what symptoms you're experiencing that lead you to suspect you have BP? Even if you're spot on, there may be some surprises in store, as you may not have the kind of bipolar you think you do. I thought I was BP II when I started out, but I wound up being dx'd BP NOS because I have features of both I and II and don't fit either category exactly. Try to go to your pdoc appointments without pre-conceived notions about what is and is not bipolar disorder. Not everyone with mood swings has it, and not all mood swings---even within bipolar patients---are related to the illness. (Sometimes, we just have bad days like everyone else.) In the event that you are eventually diagnosed with BP, we'll be here to help; and in the meantime, please feel free to bounce things off us here in the Bipolar forum and ask questions. Helping others, helps us. ![]()
