I've finally decided that Prozac is not doing what it used to do for me, so it has pooped out. 80mg just isn't keeping my depression at a comfortable level. The other SSRI's don't seem to do what I need either, so I've switched to Cymbalta - I took it briefly a couple years ago and stopped because of the sexual side effects, however, I was having similar issues with Prozac, so I'm going to give the Cymbalta another try. Today is day 1 - wish me luck!

Please post a reply if you have any advice or thoughts about this switch or about Cymbalta in general - I've heard mixed reviews from people who have tried it. Thanks!

Watch out for heart-related side effects. Not sure about specifics, if it's racing heart, palpitations, heart disease or what. But I read some time ago that a certain dosage is dangerous to a certain age group or people with a predisposition to heart related disorders. Think 40mg was said to be safe. Hope someone will post the correct info. I hope it does it's job!
Thanks for this!

I took it for a couple of years and it was pretty good. No weight issues for me... then, like everything it stopped working for me. I am now on an MAOI.

I was on the max dosage of Prozac and it did nothing for me. Now, i'm on the max dosage of Zoloft, and again, it doesn't do much to me. I'm trying to get switched to Luvox because it is really good for OCD.
Thanks for this!

Hey, Jeremy - interesting that you're finding that same issue with both Prozac and Zoloft. I've found over the years that the SSRI's just don't do the job for me - Zoloft, Prozac, Celexa, Lexapro - I've been at the max dose for all of them and either had bad side effects, or they just don't manage my depression well enough. I wonder if it's just that SSRI's are not it for me. Good luck with the Luvox!

Eh, it is like Effexor but, not like Pristiq which actually is Effexor. After my experiences with SSRIs, both on and off a mood stabilizing drug, I've decided to avoid even SNRIs, I take Wellbutrin XL but, stopped it because it ruined my appetite. I'd rather be depressed and able to enjoy food than fine and losing weight because eating has become a chore.
Not enjoying food is depressing!!!! Kind of like how many people are with antidepressants and sex but, I never had sexual problems on them...except increased drive as I went nuts on SSRIs

I don't have much experience with the cymbalta, because a doc had the bright idea to change my dose from 10mg to 90mg in one day. I went off the deep end and attempted suicide within a week. Needless to say, I don't see him anymore! I have several friends that are very happy with it. Good Luck

I take Cymbalta, started on 30mg had no effect at 3months was raised to 60mg. It started working but slowly and caused rapid cycling. Within 4months the cycling had stopped and my mood is stabilized. But i have had very different luck with SSRI's. Fluoxitine, Sertaline and Citalopram on starting dose's all sent me manic within 3 weeks and all took over 6months to get me down again.

Then I am like you - I had had no sex drive for three years because that is how I react to antipsychotics risperdal and geodon, and then prozac added two months ago - boom, I have a sex drive again. Still cannot orgasm (geodon is mighty powerful) but do have a drive. GO Prozac!
