According to a few quizzes, I may be suffering from MD...is that the same thing as Bipolar?
If I have very little income, how do I find out for sure and maybe get treatment? Should I discuss this with family or keep it to myself? |

yes it is. you can get treatment at community clinics, or Grad college psy departments have sliding scale fees for the public. It's up to you depending on your age you may want to get dx'd first.

Oh yeah, I know, I'll eventually get up the nerve and money to get dx'd. This is all new to me, and I'm mainly getting information in the meantime. I thank you for the response!

To be honest, online mental-illness quizzes aren't terribly accurate. My pdoc actually laughed when I told him every single one I've taken over the years showed I was bipolar. Turned out that I am indeed bipolar, but the way those tests are skewed I think the Statue of Liberty would come out that way.
![]() Seriously though, if you even think you might be suffering from bipolar disorder (AKA manic-depression) it would be worth it to see a psychologist or licensed clinical social worker, at the very least. Many counties have a mental health division that charges its fees on a sliding-scale basis; I'd start there first if you have no medical insurance and little cash. If you have a job, you can also check to see if they have an Employee Assistance Program where you can talk with a therapist. A word of caution, however: if indeed you do have bipolar disorder, DON'T wait to see if it gets better on its own. It won't. In fact, ignoring it will make it worse over time and it will be harder to control. Good luck to you.
