Currently, I've got both Bipolar Disorder for Dummies and I'm Not Crazy, Just Bipolar on my Kindle. They're full of good information, and you just can't beat books that are written by people who know what they're talking about.

Of course, with any new diagnosis, patients tend to search the Internet and the bookstores (I think there's maybe two of them left in the entire country) for anything and everything they can find on the subject. Some of this information is good and true, and some is not so wonderful.....you have to be selective about your sources. Generally, PsychCentral, Medscape, PsychEducation.org, and NAMI are good places to start, as is the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance site. They all feature recommendations for books on BP.

FWIW, a lot of folks have borderline AND bipolar together.......they overlap in a lot of ways, which makes teasing out the BP from the BPD quite a job for your pdoc. He must be an excellent diagnostician.

Thanks so much for the response! I may look into those books. I was thinking of checking amazon for books but I'd rather find them from someone that actually has bipolar; ya know? Thanks again

I vote for Bipolar for Dummies. I have it and it is great for a "beginner" as it doesn't assume that you know anything to start. Also it is well written and includes some humor. It hits almost every topic in bipolar.

Hey, it works for medical people too. Even as a nurse, I get a bad case of the stupids every time I'm diagnosed with something new and have to go back to Health Problem 101. It's just different being the patient, is all.

I also have bipolar for dummies. It's good for learning about bipolar.
I've also read A Quiet Mind by Kay Redfield Jamison its about her struggles with bipolar and overcoming them.

Dr. Kay Jamison Redfield has also written "Touched with Fire" which is very interesting from the standpoint of how famous people have struggled with their illness. She is bipolar herself and is a professor of psychiatry at a major university.

I think you would find both books, "An Unquiet Mind" and "Touched With Fire" interesting reading.
