If you are having problems with your life, took an online test because you think you may have bipolar then you need to see a mental health specialist like a therapist, psychologist or, the big mama, a psychiatrist.

Online tests tend to 'skew' toward the condition they're testing for. I've taken psych quizzes that would make a rock look bipolar! OTOH, if you're even the least bit concerned about it, you'd be well-advised to see a qualified mental health professional, e.g. a psychologist or psychiatrist. We cannot diagnose you here or even offer medical advice; we are a support group only.

What, other than the test, leads you to think you may be bipolar? How long have you had symptoms, if any? A doctor is really the only person who can tell you whether you have the disorder, and sometimes they don't diagnose you right away.......it can take a few visits before the picture becomes more clear.

When I was first diagnosed, my pdoc wasn't even sure I was bipolar at all, so he gave me a provisional diagnosis of depressive disorder and bipolar NOS (not otherwise specified---a wastebasket diagnosis basically). It didn't take too many visits or med adjustments for him to figure out that I was definitely bipolar, so the depression came off my medical record. The only reason I'm still labeled NOS is for insurance purposes, so he can experiment with different treatments to get me to my best life with bipolar disorder. If I had to guess, I'll probably wind up classified as Bipolar I since I've had a mixed episode and a full-blown manic episode just in the past six months. But for now, the number isn't what matters......I'm just happy to be getting back to good.

Keep us posted on what you find out when you see someone. Take care.

Online tests tend to not be very accurate. It takes a lot more than a few questions to be diagnosed with bipolar. Often it is anecdotal evidences that a psychiatrist will use to diagnose you, as well as questions and observation. Still, if it is causing you concern, as the others have suggested, you should see a mental health physician.

Well, while I echo what everyone else has said regarding online tests, I know where you're coming from as I did the same thing. I knew something was wrong with me mood wise, so I stumbled across this place and also scored high on the bipolar test.

I got up the nerve to see a therapist, who told me recently he's pretty positive I have cyclothymic disorder. So, I'm on the bipolar spectrum, but not as severe as the tests would have me believe (they said I likely had bipolar I).

These tests are more a tool to let you know if you should be concerned. If you feel like you can't function normally in life, definitely see a therapist / psychiatrist so you can get a more professional and thorough analysis.

Please do make an appointment to see a professional.

I only took online tests after diagnosis and I took a lot of tests. All positive but for many disorders I don't really have.

You should start a mood chart before your appointment. This will help you and your doctor determine how frequent and how intense your mood swings are. Also will help identify if you have any triggers.

Thankyou to all of your replys, Ive been haalways had ups and donws as everyone, i was first depressed about 8 years ago and have been up and down ever since, about three years ago i had a bad really bad panik attack that i didnt realise it was one. I went to the doctor for a year every month and they just kept telling me i had an infection and kept describing me anti biotics.
it wasnt until i rang an ambulance and they told me i had anxiety, this was three years ago now, i have been to c.b.t, seen a private councelor and am currently on my sixth type of antidepressants and have been signed off sick for the past four months because of this. My therapist told me that the syptoms i was describing was like bipolar but he was unable to diagnose me, and i should go and see my gp again. I read somewhere that with bipolar depressive moods last for months and hyper moods last for weeks is this true? if so i dont think i could have bipolar, i have depressive moods where im really low, alomst suicidal, which is what im experiencing now, but sometime i have really high moods where im really happy, and i sort of feel excited with butterflies in my tummy but i dont know why, but they only last for a few days if that. I really want to know how to bring it up with my gp to be reffered to the correct place but i dont want to sound paranoid, i also feel that what if im experiencing these sypmtoms because maybe i suspect bipolar. I have also been diagnosed with health anxiety so am not sure f its something to do with that. I am just sick of going there every four week and the tablets not working so they just try me on new ones. I have also had a lot of issues in the past and in my childhood and when this all started my uncle died because he killed himself, and my best friend slept with my boyfriend and i lost my job so i thought maybe its just something to do with that, I suppose really what im asking is how shall i approach my doctor?

Since your GP already knows what's going on just ask for a referral to a psychiatrist. If asked why because the medication does not seem to be helping.
