Hello, I am fairly new to the bipolar diagnosis, as it has been about 5 months since I was diagnosed with it. (Before, my dx was major depression). Well I was just wondering if a symptom of bipolar hypo can be a feeling of apathy, such that I am not as sensitive to things that happen to me. For instance, I am not offended nor do I care if someone says something negative to me. When I am depressed, I am so sensitive that my boyfriend feels like he is walking on egg shells, and I take things way too personally. Right now, I don't have many other symptoms of hypomania however I do have the apathy and I am definitely out of my depression. I would say my mood has been mildly elated. I went shopping at 10pm just for school supplies instead of waiting till tomorrow, because I am so excited about school and think I will make all A's and accomplish so much (Which is not like me, since I have low self confidence and low motivation). But I don't feel extra energy nor do I have insomnia. Anyone else get this apathy thing?

Yes, actually I am alot of the time. Bipolar II is my dx and always have a low to mod amt of depression despite being on meds.
That said I don't have happy hypomania, at all. There's always a trade off I guess...
Trouble sleeping is an issue as well, another trade off...
Many good wishes for your school year.
Take care.

I don't consider not worrrying about negative comments from others apathy. There will absolutely and always be people in your life who have negative things to say about you. The trick is determining who is worth listening to. Not worrying about all comments is just a sign that you're not depressed anymore. Same goes for your hope and excitment about starting school.

Hi yes, I have had this. I do the same thing. I shopping sometime real early in the morning. My doctor put me on another medication and it seemed to help some. It sounds more the the depressive side. I know there are different types of bipolar. I would let your doc know

Well I'm having more symptoms of hypomania. I got no sleep at all and been up for 25 hours now. And I talked my boyfriends ears off. Talking so much. But it's important things!!! Gah.

Maybe you should take your medications? Or see a therapist and work on ways to cope with symptoms without medication? Either way, I think you need to decide what you want and stick to a plan.

I start feeling more apathetic when I haven't taken my thyroid medications. Could be a physical problem.

I am taking my medications. What has led you to believe I am not taking my medication?
