My whole life, guilt has been my greatest motivator, whether self- guilt or guilt from others. I'm thinking I should learn to develop some more healthier motivator but I have no idea how. This is the one my mom n grandma nurtured. They were both masters of the guilt-trip. (also both bp, tho my grandmother was never diagnoised, all the signs were there)

(Hugs, Sweepy). I hope you have or can quickly build, a support system outside of the crisis group. If not, you have "us."

Vanity and fear of failure is probably the things that keep me around. As far as motivation it depends on the activity. Ability to swim is the main motivator of one of my current goals. Maybe post some goals and we can help you find healthy motivations.

Motivation for what? For me, I don't have a general motivator for everything I do. It depends on the situation. I guess most times, I have no motivation. Sometimes my motivation is based upon something insignificant and meaningless. My motivation to stay alive is probably fear and the worry of future resentment from my kids. Sorry, I realize that sounds a bit depressing.

Life motivates me...being alive motivates me and since I am older time is now limited and THAT motivates me!

hmm... would depend on the goal, yes. i have no motivation for the mundane boring tasks of the day. sometimes it comes down to an asshole voice yelling at me in my head to get something done.

other things excite me more like nature and contemplating the color of a flower, the sky, dirt, stars. going to see live music and dancing can usually get me going.

or things like yoga, meditation, energy work get me going because I like the end result and satisfaction of finding more balance between the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual bodies.

any of that make sense Momma?

Until recently I have used anger and spite to motivate me to get through the seemingly impossible times. I would get angry and push myself just out of spite.

Recently I have been motivated by actually knowing and believing that I can be a better person. I have learned the difference between feelings, mood and emotion and I have been monitoring my feelings and my reaction to them, and how they affect my emotions and ultimately my mood.

I have been able to see myself finally become the person I have wanted to be so for me that is now my main motivator! I hope things get better for you. I know what it feels like to function out of guilt.
Thanks for this!

Depends- mundane things? Zero motivation, doesnt interest me 1 bit, so whatever it is can wait until is starts working on my damn nerves... If we're talking life & future goals- well then I have to say that 1, being a control freak I dont have much say in the matter, its my nature, & that includes meaning I have to kick bp's butt. Also, I'm a big believer in the fact that I DESERVE goodness, good job, good health, good home.Nobody's gonna hand it to me, so its up to get it.

For some things, such as housework, I rarely can summon enough motivation. Guests' visiting and that is about it. I
