Hello Moodmuse,

I never tried that, but I hope you will find the information that you want here.

I'd be interested in hearing about this, too.

The gloomy, dreary weather is on its way and the dark days are TRULY dark for me.

Are a lot of us in the same boat?

I have friends who swear by them. I also think there is research supporting their use. I used it for a while, but I was a bit of a slacker and got out of the habit. It might have helped a little, but I was in pretty rough shape then, so it is hard to tell. I might try it again this year now that I am stable again.

Best,
EJ

My step mom has a light thats about a foot and ahalf tall by a foot wide that she sits in front of her on a table and it is like tanning bed lights. She uses it often and she says it really helps her a lot. I dont know that it would help me or not but I would say it would because when I used to go to the tanning bed I was less depressed than I am now that I quit tanning a couple years ago.

Hi,
I use light therapy and it really helps me. I use it in the morning for abt 30 minutes. I use to complete meditation afterwards.

We use full spectrum bulbs turning our whole house into a light box. This is the first year we've done it but I'm hoping. If not we'll be moving to fl. in a couple of years.

I just bought a dawn simulator and started using it a couple of weeks ago, and I've had a definite improvement in my mood and sense of well-being. I don't mind getting up at oh-dark-thirty when it looks like mid-July in my bedroom. We'll see what happens come the dark days of January and February; I may add a light box at that time if the dawn simulator is no longer adequate.

I used to go to the tanning salon because I like being tan, and I loved my 20-minute "beach" vacations. Seriously, I'd put on my safety glasses on and turn the fan to where it was blowing directly on me, and picture myself lying on a white-sand beach soaking up the sun. When the tanning session was over, I'd be all relaxed and happy and feel like I really had taken a vacation. But, my skin got dried out and all leathery, and being almost 54, I'm not likely to get that dewy, youthful look back......all I can do is try not to make it worse!

So the light therapy really is the only option for me. A few years back, we actually considered moving to Arizona, but then we had our first grandchild and that was the end of that.

I've never tried light therapy, but I imagine it would work the same as sitting outside in the sun or getting some type of Vitamin D.
