Hi everyone..i am new to this bipolar thingy. I was wondering i have been taking lithium for the past 3 weeks and last week we increased my dose to 1500mg/day. I have now disovered my hands tremble a lot especially when typing or holding a paper to read. Is this normal?

Any tips for bipolar?

Hand tremors can occur, you need to report this to your prescribing physician, and soon, to rule out if that dose may not be for you and/or if the titration is being done to fast. It still is an excellent mood stabilizer, but needs to be followed every couple of months for levels, I think in the begining, you'll need a blood level check, then the intervals are less.

Hi Twinkle,

Though I don't take Lithium when I started on Depakote I had the same reaction. My doctor backed off the dose and started to increase it a bit more slowly. That did help a lot. Be sure to bring it up with your doctor as soon as you can. We always have to be aware of how the medication makes us feel and if anything doesn't feel quite right don't hesitate to call your doc.
