Hey all,

I'm the new guy here! Been snooping around a bit and have been learning much! I have a question for you all.

Do you find yourself getting immersed in projects and hobbies to find yourself not able to finish any of them? At one time, I had 1) Car 2) Truck 3) Motorcycle 4) Golf 5) Paintball and 6) R/C Airplane (Never finished building!)

I have realized that I picked up all of these things when I was in hypo-manic states. I tend to get impulsive when hypo-manic... And I don't do it small. When I make an impulse buy, I go BIG! I sold my very nice Honda Civic (That I had wanted for YEARS) to impulsively buy a 1951 Chevy Truck with no Engine or Transmission!

After buying the truck and working on it for months, I completely stopped working on it and got involved in SCUBA diving!

This has been a pattern all through my life.

Thank God for the internet! I can read people's blogs and do this stuff vicariously!

So, have you all found yourselves doing stuff like this?

Yeah, I start projects and never finish them. Or I start out all excited and then it winds down and I half-*** it the rest of the way....

My projects tend to all be crochet projects. I was going to make all of my family members blankets... haha... nope. Now I am trying something more realistic: hats. But I'm struggling to finish one... /sigh

The bonus of my hobby however is that when people learn you crochet they say "oh, my grandma passed away and left 10,000 things of yarn, you can have it!" And... for some reason I accept it and now I am drowning in yarn and my husband has told me no more free yarn! It's all over the house!

I hope you have cats!!!!

I do the half assed thing too..... Drives me nuts. And because I know I have a tendency to Half-*** things, I'll not start things because I don't want to screw up!

I do have a cat. He's annoying.... worst cat I ever owned. All of my pets right now I am unhappy with them.

My husband hates when I half-*** things. He gets really mad at me for that. So, I also won't start something because of it.... procrastinating is also a hobby of mine, I guess.

In one of my manic states I wanted to sell my house, renovate my dad's house, open a bar (never in my life have I wanted to open a bar) oh and I leased a Lexus which I had no business doing financially. There are many more stories! Having many things going on is definitely evidence of mania/bp for me.

Oh so far, I started working out, but I am dwindling slowly. More recently I joined a book club and read three pages and never finished the book! I always start books and never finish them. I have started three so far. LOL. None finished, Yet.

I started building a 9' Dorry (small row boat) in the basement. I got so frustrated that I gave up and threw it in the fire pit..... Ugh.

Then.... I did it again!!!!

Third times the charm?

I'm going stir-crazy not working right now. I'm doing my on-line classes for my BS degree, but those are really pretty simple and maybe take 3-4 hours of actual work per class total to do.....

I want to start a project..... I should probably go clean the basement!

You know.... I can put anything away once I know where it's supposed to go! The trouble, is figuring out where to put it in the first place!

Yes, putting things away is very hard for me. I pile up the laundry on top of the dresser.... instead of just open the drawer and put it in.... I don't know why. Also just leave clean clothes in the basket... this is big issue for me right now.

When I have a lot of things around me (like a pile of clothes,) I get confused and I panic so I just put the pile somewhere else.

Thank God the USMC has a manual for EVERYTHING!!!!! They even tell you how to fold your underwear! ;D

Yeah... they would not like me that much. Even if I have directions I still get confused. It's a big problem these days. It's like working a room full of cob-webs.

My other "hobby" was writing. I wanted to be a novelist. I start a new story and can only get a page in, and then I forget what I was writing. I can't grasp the ideas long enough to get anywhere any more.

I picked up one hobby as an adult, "reborning dolls" which means taking rubber dolls, painting them with heat drying paint, rooting hair - making them look like real babies, at least in the photos. I painted a doll and was rooting the hair when my mania stopped. Figured out I hated doing it. I had spent almost a thousand dollars on the hobby and never touched it again.

For buying things... I had to have leather seats so I bought a new car - same brand and model of the car I had except one year newer and a different color. It never occurred me to that I could just have the seats recovered.

I do not do it anymore, but I used to buy stuff for crafts projects, home organization etc., and never complete them.

I am so glad that it doesn't happen anymore.

I have always wondered about this aspect of me. My husband has said repeatedly that i get really interested in something and than never finish it. I have loads of unfinished projects. I now realize i am likely hypomanic and when it passes, i look at what i was doing and can't find an ounce of interest in it.

Yeah, I hear that! I've actually published the start of a story on-line... its semi-erotic fiction and I would get really into it, put out a good chunk and then.... nothing. Yeah.....

You asked for it!

http://www.literotica.com/stories/me...ge=submissions

The 4-parter was/is intended to be a novel..... I'm just so horrible about working on it. As you can see by the dates, I average a bout a post a year!

The top story is one my ex-wife related to me, about her first time....

The bottom story is about my first time.....

I really used to be into drawing my comic. I used to draw a comic about diabetes. I loved doing it and it was really taking shape. My characters were really getting their personality. I had spin-off type ideas and secret identities, etc. I had a pretty good following.... then.... I really want to keep doing it but I can't seem to do it any more. I lost all my character designs so I would have to re-do them. I've tried to re-start a couple of times but I can't.

I love doing comics but it's like my brain flushed it away. I left it mid-story, too....

firstly, yeah.. i always start things and never finish them- start them while i'm mannic, and then when i've gone down i totally forget about what i was meant to be doing and need constant reminding

with the buying, yes... i do that!

my last mannic buying was.. get this, £200 on amazon.co.uk, and most of it i didon't even want.. it was because it was in stock, and i could buy it- that was all in 1 day... so i know exactly what you mean

really came down to earth when i really wanted a dvd and found their was no money left on the card.. guess i should learn from that

does anyone else while they are mannic buy things that don't need, then later when you actually do want something can't aford it?
