Hey all,

I was recently let go from my job because I put my foot in my mouth.... It's because of the BP! It seems i'm fine for 6-months or so, then have a month where I just can't not say stupid things!

Has anyone gotten a job back because of the Americans with Disabilities Act?

Technically I am excellent at what I do. It's only the "customer service" that I occasionally screw up! The kicker is, I usually am GREAT with my patients and their families! It's just when I'm in one of my "phases" that I can't seem to control my mouth.

William

I don't have experience with ADA but just wanted to say I have said things/acted in agressive, poor ways when manic so I can relate. I recently lost my job due to absence/depression and wish I had been more knowledgable about ADA. I'm sure you'll get a lot of great info here.

That whole "customer service" business---turning hospitals into Disneyland or Mickey D's and nurses into little robots---is CRAP. I will never work in a hospital again because of that. I don't need a script to know how to treat my patients decently, and I bet you don't either. Don't let the bastards get you down, hon.......time to try another type of nursing that will allow you to be an individual. Yes, work on the mouthiness thing, but in the meantime you'd do well to get out of the stifling hospital environment and do something where you have more autonomy.

I'm not trying to blow sunshine up your skirt, but sometimes things end in order for something better and more satisfying comes along. I hope that is true in your case! I've lost a few jobs to bp. It was the exhaustion that comes with depression that did me in. On my last, and best job, I was graduating from crutches to a wheelchair for life. After that, I just gave up on work and live on SSI/Disability. That's me, though. There are many great attorneys out there who are well versed in the ADA and helping people with disabilities of all stripes. I would suggest consulting one. On the face of it, your argument does have merit, but only an attorney could tell you if it is worth pursuing or best to move on. I wish you all the best and don't let this bring you down!
