............. sitting at the Olive Garden last night with good company, good food and a 9 oz glass of red wine. It is once in a blue moon now, when I choose to consume alcohol. It is usually with pasta and a deep marina sauce that I crave a glass of red wine.

But here I am, 24 hours later, with a trembling hand and a slight vibration throughout my whole body. Earlier in the afternoon, some moments of despair and crying.

Is it coincidence? I have always known that alcohol is a depressant, but can one glass of wine act this quickly, to unleash a cocktail of neurotransmitters that send me into a tailspin?

I have felt this a few times before, maybe not as intense, after consuming alcohol. It does not start immediately or even early the next day. However, by the afternoon, I am starting to fear the feelings that are creeping in. They remind me of the downward spiral that became my life for two years.

I am curious to know about your experiences?

When you drink small amounts, does your mood change? Is it abrupt? Is it delayed? Are there other symptoms that manifest themselves?
How long does it last?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts....................

If I have a couple of beers I feel pretty good, all over too and no mood issues. It's when I've had wine and am tired then a headache will come and a mood swing. But not always. I think it only happens when I'm vulnerable to a mood swing. I have something everyday, pretty stubborn about giving it up, I don't have too many vices and so this is one I want.
Thanks for this!

Sorry Blue Poppy you are struggling with this. I meant to say that right away. I meant to say that sometimes one big glass of wine has affected me too. Feel better.
Thanks for this!

Felt bad the next day, too.not hungover bad but really sown, very emotional and crying. Sorry you went through this...

Sorry you went through this too. May I ask do you take meds for anything? Sometimes mixing it with certain medications can cause some weird effects like this. I try not to take my meds if I am drinking even though its not a good idea either way. But I do notice wine giving me a headache and mood swings as someone also mentioned.

I dont drink wine (gross) but having cider or some whiskey has never done this to me, incidently, I had some cider this weekend, and my mood never dipped. So sorry you're feeling crappy maybe it is a med interaction, sounds weird for just 1 glass, unless you've always been Über sensitive to alcohol...
Thanks for this!

Hi there,

Yes, I am on meds. Lamictal, effexor and paxil. Yikes!

You may have a sensitivity to alcohol. Or some of the many other things including pesticides that are in it.

I probably shouldn't drink, because I do have an odd reaction to it. I'm buzzed off of 1/4 of a beer. And I do have a history of taking it too far some times, and ending up with worse hangovers than the people I was with. But I've always been random about it, luckily it has never become a daily routine for me.

Sounds like you may want to steer clear of the alcohol, or wine especially.
Thanks for this!

Maybe that's what did it!! These medications are tricky. Even if you didn't take them with the alcohol and it was hours since you had them, it would still be in your system and can mix with the alcohol. I know you said you don't drink much but that could also be a factor since your tolerance is lower and you get "high" easier. So, in addition to the pills being in your system....no bueno my friend.

I don't drink much ...probably because right now I can't afford to buy any . This past spring/ early summer my husband thought it would be so much fun to go camping It's hard to get all happy about camping when you have Fibro..

So those 2 weekends I over served myself a couple bottles of wine. I can't say it effected me in a negative way.

I think alcohol is just like Meds ... they all effect everyone differently.

Blue , I hope you are feeling alot better

I have a glass of red wine with dinner at least once a week, and I'm usually fine unless I go to a second glass...or unless I drank that one too quickly. I agree w/ the others who point out it affects everyone differently, especially when we're all medicated differently.

I am on meds. Lamictal and Seroquel. I skip the Seroquel if I have a drink because I am paranoid that I will die. I am overly worried about that, I think it may be a little overkill but you know ...
