I'm very edgy, anxious and irritable lately. I can also feel a depressive mood coming on. Im taking my meds as prescribed. I called my pdoc today and the next available is the end of January. What do I do? My family doc knows about my problems, she is the one that referred me to my pdoc. Should I see her in the meantime? My pdoc is already 85 miles away and is the closest I can find. If i try someone new tge wait is 3-6 months. Im crying just thinking about feeling this way for 7 more weeks

Do you have a therapist? Sometimes having someone to talk it out with is very helpful. Having both a pdoc and a therapist is a good idea because the pdoc takes care of meds, and the therapist helps you with coping skills, stress management, and so on. It's amazing how good a therapy session can help sometimes.

Does your pdoc have a group practice? If so, they usually have an on-call doc who can help you through the immediate crisis, until you can see your own. Last summer when I was going through a manic episode and my pdoc was on vacation, the on-call counseled me over the phone and prescribed Zyprexa to bring me down.....thankfully, at the office I go to a psychiatrist is always available, and this one probably helped me avoid a hospitalization.

You shouldn't have to wait seven weeks to get help when your illness is out of control. Surely there's somebody who can assist you in the meantime, even if it's an on-call doctor or your county mental health department.

I do have some Abilify. I stopped it because of how sleepy it made me but it did get rid of my agitation. I may just take it for now and deal with the sleepiness.

If you don't have a therapist can you call your family doctor back and explain that you can't see someone until late Jan and ask what if there is anything she is willing to prescribe short term.

Or maybe you could call 211 and see if they have some resources.

One possible solution is to have the family doc prescribe Nuvigil to counteract sleepiness. That would allow you to take Abilify as needed.
