My family has had dogs forever, but recently every time I'm home, or at someones house that has a dog, I cough constantly, my throat gets sore, my nose gets all stuffed up and it gets really hard to breathe. ,, is it possible to just now develop allergies toward my dogs? & if that's what it is, how do I deal with that? would I have to get rid of my dogs...? :/

I've witnessed allergies popping up out of nowhere, suddenly my mom looks like a blowfish after a glass of red wine, and my sister cant breath if she has honey... Its weird. Maybe see a gp and ask about an antihistimine, they helped my brother with his cat allergy so he didn't have to get rid of him

My mom said that she is going to make me an appointment to see if that is what has been bothering me or if it's something else.

If your on antidepressants then check with your pharmacist what antihistamines you can have. There are a couple which interact with SSRIs. But antihistamines are a good idea to try. The other thing you could try is garlic and horseradish tablets.

Vacuum often -it will get rid of the dander which is the allergen and wash pet bedding often as well. Won't "cure" it but should help.

I'm not on any type of medicine, and I would do that, but my house is very big and the dogs go EVERYWHERE even if they're not allowed. It would take wayy too long to wash everything that often..

It is possible to suddenly form an allergy. If your GP isn't able to help, you may need to see an allergist. They can do skin and scratch tests to find out what you're allergic to. If it's not the dogs, it could be something that is in your neighborhood that dogs might get into. For example, a common weed or grass that grows, so even if you were at someone else's house you could still get the effect of the allergy.

Wow, it is unusual. Cats are the usual culprit, not dogs.

If you are allergic to cats and only cats, you're actually allergic to their saliva and not the fur. If you're allergic to dogs it's animal dander most likely, so you'll also be allergic to cats (most likely.)

I went to the doctors today and all she did was tell me to go buy medicine for my cough and to get rid of mucus and another medicine that supposed to get rid of allergies. I took both around 6:30 & I am stuff coughing my lungs out...

You can develope an allergy overnight. I did to penicillin. Try taking an allergy med before getting rid of your beloved pet.
