Off to see Dr.V about my meds. Going to see if I can d/c the Risperdal and try new AD. He mentioned last visit there's a brand new AD that works on different neurotransmitter for serontonin so maybe I'll give that a try. Hopefully it won't make me hypomanic like most AD's do.

Well as usual Dr V. was willing to work with me. Did (sort of) take him to task about my weight gain and that I think it was the Risperdal. He didn't say too much in response other than to say unfortunately that's the case w/ most psychotropic drugs, yada...yada...yada...

Am going to try a new AD. It's called Viibryn. Has anyone had any experience taking it? It's supposed to be weight neutral and libido/sexual side effect neutral. Looked it up online and read some reviews from patients who have been on it. Most (80%) were very positive w/some diarrhea and nausea that cleared up w/in a few days.

One woman on it lost 20lbs in two months! Oh please let that be me.
It can cause insomnia which I hope it doesn't because I had awful insomnia for almost 3 years and just in the past 6 months got my circadian cycle in order.

Dr. V doesn't lie to change more than 1 med at a time so we'll see how the AD change goes then we can try to discontinue the Risperdal and use it only if needed!

All in all I have to say I'm happy and hopeful.

It's Viibryd (not viibryn). I was on it for awhile and it worked quite well. I did have the stomach issues for a few days at first, but that quickly cleared up. Warning though: Insurance may give you a hassle about filling this. It took special approval (and about a week) before insurance would cover it.
Thanks for this!

Thanks farmergirl. I'm hoping it will work for me well. My old AD Paxil just isn't giving me the lift I need anymore. I've been on it for 5 years so...

Thanks for the heads-up about the insurance, I have a rx plan through my Medicare/SS and I hope they'll approve it. My Pdoc gave me a month starter pack.

Do you remember what strength you were on?

Good luck. I hope this drug foes the trick it's always a time for optimism when you get a new med to try so I really hope it works out and the side effects are transient and mild.
