I just went outside and smelt the distinct smell of hmm sort of iron smell in the air.... SNOW, not yet but tonight I am so sure. One of the best things in my life is to smell the approaching snow, and when it falls, it's the happiest time for me. we have not gotten our snow yet, christmas with out snow.. not feeling it. I been waiting a while now. Yup we got lots up the mountain at work but not here in the valley.

Of course no one believes me it's coming.. Or that it smells.

Blue tell me why it smells again... Pretty please.. I know I am not crazy in that way.

Me too, I love the snow, especially at Christmas time. And the smell of fresh snow, mmm But I also worry when it snows, because my hubby has an hour's drive to work and the traffic goes crazy when it snows.
Winter is not my favourite time of the year though, because it's so cold!
Thanks for this!

I love it when it gets cold enough to get a little bit of snow here. (Less than an inch..t.t)

I didn't know that you could smell snow coming, though.

The air smells like snow today — not surprising, according to the latest weather forecast which predicts up to 4″ of the white stuff before it changes to rain. Do you know that smell? When the air actually feels heavier as you breathe it — not wet, as it does before and after a rain storm, but heavy with frost and crystals and sharp cold. It’s a distinctly different smell that I can never put a finger on, one that is best described as feeling like “bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens”, perhaps? One that conjures up memories of red toboggans and Christmas mornings. A smell that, if you close your eyes, can whisk you off to childhood for one fleeting moment. That smell is in the air today.

theys' not my words Anika

I don't wanna go to work, but I can't call in sick... Just not me. And I am not sick..just need a little sleep. Maybe not work so hard, but that doesn't work out.

No snow, it's ok. Hasn't let me down yet..maybe today..

Snow absolutely has a smell, and I know exactly what it smells like. I know exactly what you mean. you're not crazy, Anika. Actually I was just telling my middle son about learning to smell the snow coming just last week!

No snow here, either. But we usually have a brown Christmas. But, it's been too dry this year and they say today it will rain and tomorrow it will snow. We need it.

I live close to the mountains but ever the mountains are not so snowy. I used to ski as a kid, but... I'm not good at going downhill fast towards things. I am the one screaming "Look out I don't know how to stop!" Not that anyone ever took the time to really teach me, tho. I'd rather go sledding. Haha. or build a snowman.

I used to play this game called Fox and Geese in the field with my mom. You make a big circle in the snow (like huge) with an X through it. One person is the fox and everyone else is the geese. The middle is the fox's home, and the fox has to try to catch the geese without anyone falling off. LOL. It was so fun, but none of my cousins would play with me. Just me and my mom.

I snowboard, I used to ski, and since I work at a ski hill the nice perk is a seasons pass. I can't wait to go, next week I think on one of my days off I am gonna go boarding with a girl I work with.
Snowshoeing tomorrow at the ski hill with my mom, and I am going to try to get her to go tubing too.

DH that does sound like an awsome game. We used to try to build igloos when we were kids, but there is always the danger of them colapsing on you and being suffocated.

Venus do you ski?

DH, what a sweet magical memory. I saw a man today who was blowing bubbles with his son/grandson/small child, and they looked so happy. made me smile. then i remembered my daughter's pdoc 5 years ago telling me to play with her, just play, show her life can be fun and happy again. best advice a pdoc ever gave me (just need to figure out how to show myself now)!

And Anika, so happy you will get to snowboard soon. And i cannot wait to hear how it goes with moms snowshoeing lol.

I do ski, cross country, since I live in hilly (mountain-y?) part of the country.

Few years ago, when I lived in Prague, they gotten unexpected load of snow (Prague normally has only just enough snow to get annoying and it turns into dirty mud soon). People went skiing to Petrin hill, since there's a cable car. (and photographers gone crazy with "ah, pwetty winter pictures").

I say one day when you're home along, turn on the stereo or whatever music thing you listen to really loud and dance around in your underwear. It's very releasing. Nothing says fun like dancing like a mad fool and pretending you're a rock star!
