This is ending up a pretty bad evening. Tears came out, finally, but the reason was pretty dismal - loneliness, feeling unloved and blaming myself for failure even though I know I did nothing wrong. I think the dosage is wrong. I'm neck deep in depression now and tonight I had a carving knife in hand. I didn't cut myself but did jab the tip into my hand just to feel something else. I'm going to visit with some friends just so I'm not alone. Took my mood stabilizer so waiting for it to kick in. Please, God, let me make it through the night.

I don't feel a danger to myself so no hospital tonight. We'll see how the night and tomorrow progresses.

Jim

Get feeling better and please don't hurt yourself, I find that writing out all of the people who will miss me helps, just puts things in perspective. Just hang in there buddy I promise it gets better.

Please, please don't harm or hurt yourself. Please allow me to offer something I've read about as an alternative to S.I.

The ice cube method to 'release' the urge to S.I.
In your clenched fist, squeeze and hold ice cubes tightly. Hold in your fist as long as possible, feel the 'burn' of the ice on your skin. Feel them melt, watch the drips of water as the ice melts.
(some people need the visual prescence of blood to confirm their release) the ice melting is your 'blood'.

Hold this ice in your fist tight, as long as you can bear it, until the need to hurt is passed.

Another idea :
wear one or more tight elastic bands around your wrist. Pull the band, 'pinging' it, against your skin, when the need to S.I. is strong.

Both of these alternatives are harmless, and hopefully will help you, find a release. Please try.
There is a whole forum on here about S.I. and different coping stratagies.
All the best.
Thanks for this!

Awesome advice and thank you. Currently with friends at a night club. Mood stabilized so I think I'm good. The ice idea sounds good though!

Hope you have some good time with friends, you need it. Easy with the alcohol, it's a b**** the next day, and that won't help mood, ya know? Thinking of you, may angels surround you.

Have you managed to discuss your feelings with any of your friends? Is anyone aware?

I told my closest friends after I was diagnosed. I wasn't sure how I'd react to the meds and they needed to know if some reaction happened. When I thought something could happen I have warned my friends to be watchful. That was during my last high. Fortunately they won't leave me alone if I need them.
