People who use Seroquel for sleeping only, not as an AP - do they gain weight?

Oh well... I was thinking of Seroquel low dose PRN on those rare occasions when Elavil does not work for sleep, to replace my current Zyprexa PRN for those occasions because I gain huge amounts of weight on Zyprexa, but it does not sound like a good swap, from what you are saying...

No Hampster, its not. I don't recommend it. I have gained at least 15lbs since I started on it- last ?may. It makes me hungry at night.

I started at 25mg, then went up to 50 now its 100mgs and thats not working.
Evidently you need to increase it periodically for it to keep working, at least in my case.

Now I wish I never started it because I can't go to sleep without it.

Oh, that is terrible, both the gain and that you became dependent. Thanks for responding and I hope you will find something else that helps you sleep.

Depends on how it affects your appetite. Keep an eye out.

That is what I would use it for - PRN, for those rare instances when Elavil does not work, and to force sleep on a plane - Zyprexa worked beautifully for that, but I paid with the weight gain. I gain instantly on Zyprexa.

I did. My PDOC said it doesn't matter what the dose if you are going to gain you will gain.

Thank you. That is actually what my p-doc friend says about drugs that cause weight gain - if that is meant to be, that is meant to be regardless of the dose.

I suppose I can try. I do not remember what happened when I was on large doses of Seroquel because I was going through too difficult a time to notice such things.

I've been on it since september and haven't gained any. But I also have an eating disorder so that might keep the weight off too. It knocked me out when I first started taking it so I was instructed to take it 2 hrs before I knew I wanted to go to bed. It is not prescribed to aid my sleep but for other issues.

I was just recently raised from 100MG to 600MG. Before that, I had lost 54 lbs. and now I am struggling not to eat it all back. I only have so much self-control and I'm trying my damnedest not to fall back into my problem with binge-eating. Thank goodness I kicked the bulimia in the butt, but at my weight, losing more is the only option. OR surgery, and I'd really like to avoid that route.
