Sorry to hear you're going through this stuff! It's the worst. Are you seeing anyone for treatment? When my psychosis/rage gets too bad, I take 0.25mgs of Risperdal & it takes away the horrible thoughts or hallucinations. Maybe you might want to look into that.

I mostly get other types of hallucinations... But when mania was at its worst or it was coming on or going away? I'd get voices on occasion. Mostly just really creepy-sounding voices saying nothing really important... One time I heard Beetlejuice yell "BOO!" right into my ear & it scared the **** out of me. Another time I heard the noise from the Grudge. And one time, before bed, I heard a voice saying very calmly "Hey, psst, go kill yourself."

For a really long time, I had a great deal of paranoia. But I'm also kind of paranoid in general so IDK! I thought one time, very truly & deeply, that people here on PC were stalking me because I was getting messages from the ISBN #s in my book collection!

Never heard voices. For me its all just noise, like being in a crowded room and trying to think over all the conversations of the people, except all the conversations are mine.
No paranoia either.
But I have "seen" stuff in my peripheral vision that is not there...that $#it freaks with my head. Mostly I see someone and there is no one there. Not 'bad' people or anything like that...just think I see another person but when I turn to look.....nada.

Welcome to PC and I do hope you find the answers you are looking for here.

If you are bipolar and hear voices, then your illness is called Schizoaffective and there is a forum for that on here, but its traffic is much, much lower than on this forum.

Schizoaffective is relatively rare. Most bipolar people do not hear voices.

I get paranoia a lot, see things out of the corner of my eye's, I only heard a voice once, and normally my thoughts are a bit violent even with medication.

All of the above, but only when I was full blown manic, which was three times.

helusination wise, i get really vivid ones at times.. to the point where it puts me off what ever the helusination may have been about..... it is scary stuff- 1 time i had 1 about a plane full off people, and the next day when plains came on the news i just became unusually ill and in a lot of pain. now talking about flying and airports is a trigger for me.

i do hear voices, i often describe it like i'm in a confrence room full of rappidly talking people... sometimes people i know, sometimes people i don't

sometimes even single voices of people i know

Not quite true. It's only schizoaffective if you have psychosis both during and outside of a mood episode, whether manic or depressive. About half of bipolar I people have psychosis that occurs only when mood episodes occur.

They do have some psychosis, but much less than 1/2 hears voices. even inside episodes. This is evident from what people say on this forum as well - hearing voices is not reported on a daily basis, while mood swings are.

I don't hear voices but when I'm hypo manic or manic I get paranoid. Usually it's weird stuff - like thinking someone has put a curse on me and electronics so if something goes wrong it''s not just a malfunction it's because I'm cursed.

Also at one point I was convinced a former employer was telling people that I was a bad worker and black balling me from getting a job.

I have had hallucinations - although the weirdest one came after some extreme sleep deprivation. And several times when I was manic I would be reading or daydreaming and for a few minutes think the daydream was real.

Severe sleep deprivation can cause hallucinations in people who are mentally well.

I have the hallucinations auditory and visual regardless of my mood state .. It doesn't automatically make you Schizoaffective.

I see things, shadows, in my peripheral vision, and sometimes hear noises like someone is in the house even tho I know I'm the only one in it. It took me years to get used to it. I thought I was crazy at first, seeing stuff that wasn't there, but then I heard other bipolar people say they had the same thing happen, so I decided it must be normal. Now I don't worry about it so much. Sometimes I will find myself looking twice at something out of the corner of my eye, but realize it's not really there and ignore it.

Hahaha I think I jynxed myself. I got voices again after probably 2 months of no real psychosis going on... Ironic!

"You have been chosen, but do not fear. This won't be your last opportunity."

It's not really a mood episode for me, now, so I'll have to talk to my pdoc about a possible change in dx... But it is true. Full-blown mania is differentiated from hypomania by the occurrence of psychotic symptoms, so BP II people USUALLY don't experience psychosis (except maybe in mixed states?) but BP I's almost always have had at least one psychotic break.

Don't worry, bpnos. You have support here.

Never had visual or auditory hallucinations (except when I have a high fever, and THAT gets very interesting), but I do have some paranoia, which gets pretty bad during a depressive episode. Normally I just fret if a car follows me for more than a few miles, but when I'm depressed I'll start believing that people are avoiding me, talking about me behind my back and so on.

By contrast, when I'm hypomanic I don't give a crap WHAT people are doing or thinking, except when they get in my way.

had a scary voice today (was gonna post a thread about it) but it's a total waste of thread.

but i had a voice today that shouted loud in my ear... enough is enough, either kill yourself and be done with it, or live and be content.

i always think about stuff reguarding suicide and ending my life... so i suppose it's not really a big surprise i did get that, but well.. it's a first.

i've never had someone directly tell me that. this is how it is- make your choice
