Oh, that event should make for some interesting headlines around that town.

Hotel Full of Crazies Invades UMass

I clicked to see the list of speakers and I learned a new word tonight. "Plenary."

If I go, can I pretend to be a professional and give a speech? Or a plenary? What the heck is a plenary anyways?? Of course, I'm pretty sure I give off the whole mental illness vibe.

Of course, Lauru, you get to be the plenary most high, and I'll be your back up plenary

I looked up the meaning, don't really get it, something about "fullness", don't really care lol. Just so long as whoever wants to be a plenary may do so. :P

I prefer to stay in the closet with work friends. I imagine attending this event might raise some questions! Too bad I'm not a school counselor, some topics sound interesting.

luckily for all attendants it's far away and Venus doesn't know where her passport is (and probably doesn't even have enough money on her account for accomodation AND tickets), so I am *not* gonna crash it.

I would go, if I wasn't a half a world away...
Imagine if one of us were speaking and we were struggling with pressured speech, racing / disorganised thoughts... HAHAH, "Today I would like to discuss the impact bipolar has had on my oh my what a pretty pink rabbit, would love to smoke a rainbow so anxious right now because what was I saying?..."

I don't see why not have us be speakers. Where I work we often hold events and we always have actual patients to speak about their experiences. Because the truth is that you learn so much about things from the people who actually go through it vs. the people who just study and write books about it.

One of the main questions people with diabetes tend to ask me is if the instructors have diabetes too. (Especially people with type 1 ask this.) Because they think people with diabetes get it better than people that don't. I always imagine asking potential therapists if they also have bipolar. LOL.

I can't go to the conference, though. Too far away, too expensive. But, if it ever comes here I might go.

Merriam-Webster says:

Plenary
1: complete in every respect : absolute, unqualified <plenary power>
2: fully attended or constituted by all entitled to be present <a plenary session>

So I'm thinking plenary sessions must be the ones everyone attends before the break-out sessions.

However, I've been to a lot of workshops and seminars in huge ballrooms of 5-star hotels, and I've never heard "plenary."

Street-Dictionary:
Plenary -

1. word to use to make you look smarter than you are
2. word to use to make your event seem more pompous than it is

LOL - I haven't heard the word plenary since grade school, when we were studying the United Nations. This one kid used it all the time, he wanted to be chief. Wow, flashback time.

Lol @ DH street meaning - Totally! Have u guys ever read your name's "urban street meaning". I can't repeat mine here but they're hilarious.

Thank you for the plenarious definition Purple

To me the word sounds like having a coronary, but a more complete full mind body one.

eg: "I'm havin a plenary quick call the pdoc, no call the shaman!"

Yes, plenary sounds like some horrible medical torture proceedure that they probably stick up the back side where you don't want it....

I need to look up my urban name meaning now, LOL.

Haha the only mental illness based event I ever went to was a NAMI Walk. Ended up wandering around downtown Pittsburgh after stopping at a Goodwill. So here I am, wearing mining reflective jeans, a Ralph Lauren sport jacket, camo beanie, and stopping at bars to ask people if there is anywhere I can go to take a nap.

Had crazy homeless dude written all over me. Dont think New Englander's would take to kindly to such behavior. hahaha

If I ran the gig, it would be at a wellness spa and I think our sponsors could spring for some members to go, get massage, accupuncture or other interesting healing modalities, go to some talks, go on some hikes, take some cooking healthy lessons. Pay member to give talks if they're interested... It would be the ultimate plenary experience. Miraval in Arizona would be a nice venue...

This made me think of Esalen, although I have never been there .

And, "plenary" is a very typical Soviet word. It is the first time I hear it since the 80s.
