Has anyone found that fish oil is helpful for their depression? Is there a particular brand you use?

Interesting. I have just read that coffee also acts as an antipressant and that women who drink 2 or more cups a day have less depression. So fish oil and coffee will be added to my regimine!

I get a Trader Joe's brand that is molecularly distilled to remove mercury.

Any more than 2 cups of coffee in the morning for me and I have insomnia.

I use a brand called Carlson, no mercury or lead or other contaminents either like Ubusi mentioned. I would go with oil over capsules as it has not been compressed. It also helps your digestive tract, hydrates skin from the inside out, numerous things.

If you don't like the taste you can get it in lemon or orange flavour too. I use a lemon flavour and really doesn't taste fishy at all.

Anika, I bought Carlson you recommend, but in capsules. When I run out (just started), I can buy oil, unless it is hugely more expensive. Do you know?

OP: fish oil alone is not sufficient, I think, but surely would not hurt. My p-doc said to not drink coffee after 3PM, in order for it not to interfere with sleep. I do drink tea (with caffeine) after 3PM though and am able to sleep on a low dose of a muscle relaxant, so no problem. But this is something you determine via trial and error.

The Omega 3 fatty acids are helpful in so many ways; they help reduce acidity from med residue--similar to the way lemons do, and they help me with feeling tone very nicely. Wouldn't be without them--I take about 3 grams per day--one in A.M., afternoon, and one in P.M.

I use one with lemon flavor, too, called Nordic Omega 3. There are
many different ones out there, though.

Good stuff! Highly recommend it.

I have been prescribed the pharmaceutical version of fish oil, Lovaza, mainly to lower my cholesterol levels. It's also supposed to be good for mood disorders, but I can't tell the difference. My mood swings tend to be resistant to medications.
