Anyone ever eat sweets and feel instantly better? I know that sugar releases the feel good chemicals in our brain and I also know how bad it is and addicting and unhealthy, etc. etc. but sometimes ya gotta do what ya gotta do and all I know is I could not function from my depression until about 3pm when I ate some cookies and had a diet coke. My mood immediately went up and I was able to exercise, socialize with my family and do a few things around the house. I know it is only a temporary fix but sometimes I feel like sugar is better than any antidepressant I've ever taken!

I hear that my favorite is good dark chocolate. Yummm That can help me out sometimes not all the times but sometimes. So do what you gotta do.

Actually, I'm more concerned about the fact that you used wheat for your sugar
supply. Please, it's less serious for you to use sugar than wheat. Latest research shows that wheat acts on the opiate receptors of the brain, but it also does a lot of damage in other ways too numerous to mention here. Please read Dr. David Williams' new book (a New York Best Sellter) called Wheat Belly. Gluten is the most alarming and dangerous thing about wheat, although there are other components that do damage, too, including dementia. Two slices of whole wheat bread are the equivalent of eating two tablespoons of sugar. That's how potent and how quickly it is metabolized into glucose. It's highly addictive and puts the weight on very strongly. It isn't that difficult to stop using and you will be saving years of additional lifespan by giving up wheat completely. |

I need to gain weight so, more wheat for me! In fact, pasta is my bad mood food. The mood lift is better for me than what I experience from a sugar high and seems to last longer. I hated when I was mildly depressed and on a medication that suppressed my appetite. I couldn't even enjoy my comfort pasta!

I have been on seroquel for 7 yrs. It makes resisting sugar 100 times harder. Even if you eat like a bird you gain weight. I have gained 80pds over the last 7 yrs. I had just weaned off before my son died and was starting to drop weight. No I am back on for my sanity. UGH I have been pretty good about resisting sugar but I thought whole grains were ok. Do you know any hints on how to lose weight even on seroquel. I am desperate. I used to be in shape and very active. I hate this fat body. HELP

I've used sugar hundreds of times to calm myself down. I've even woken up in the very early morning and ate cookies to calm me down and help me fall back asleep. Terrible coping mechanism, hm? LOL
![]() I know that it's a quick fix but, over all, indulging is probably worse for your mental health than abstaining. The glucose fluctuations are not good for you, and physical health often mirrors mental health as well. I started a low carb diet almost a month ago and I barely have any carb cravings. When I do, they are very short (as in, see ice cream, want ice cream, walk away from ice cream, no longer want ice cream, lol). Before that diet, I was being unforgivably naughty about my sweets! (York Mints and DQ Blizzards all the way!)

I see it this way ( my opinion only of course)
There are so many things people in general are told to avoid, this is bad , that's bad. IF you don't have a medical / mental reason to avoid every damn thing in the world, Have a bit of what you crave occasionally.
