I am older than most on this forum. On Sunday I will turn 60. I thought when I was younger that by now they would have meds that could just make us better. Here I am at 60still trying new drugs. Seems my P doc changes them every few months. I don't get much mania but I do get terrible depression. With my p doc afraid to give much antidepressant because it will cause mania. Thank god for my new T she and my husband are what are holding me together.

I too am 60 and I have been on so many SSRI',antidepressants, anti psychotics etc. My Doc just started me on Ablify 30mg, Lithium 450 this week to up it to 900 next week. please know you are not alone. I have felt as if there were times when taking these meds were so detrimental after doing so much research on what I take. I'm in a situation to where I have to take something for my mania and paranoia, so far these are helping. I hope you won't get discouraged as there are many compassionate and caring people on these forums.Keep posting I look forward to reading about your adventures.
warm thoughts to you

Well happy birthday. There is nothing wrong with experience. Also I am in my forties, and not afraid to try new medication or a new dose.

Happy birthday!! I turn 49 this year so am not that young. Still battling to find the right meds. My doctor says Lamictal, a mood stabilizer, helps with the depressive aspect of bp. She's not even certain if I am bipolar. If I am, I'm not the typical profile of a bipolar; I get agitated and anxious and obsessive-compulsive as my 'hypomania'. Anyway, I have a lot of depression--likely caused by all of the above--so I can relate. I have battled this for half my life. At our ages, you'd think we'd find some peace. I empathize with your plight. If it's any consolation, my aunt went through a lot of mental health struggles, and they seemed to fall away finally now that she is a senior. Keep up hope, and take good care.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHERI! 60 is a fabulous age.

I am 56 and feel ancient on this forum. Beside the fact I was just diagnosed last year (hypo-manic "adventure" followed by a deep dark depression) we are all in this together in one form or another. I am so thankful for the sharing and caring on this forum.

Cheers to 60! I am not far behind you and looking forward to that momentous occasion! All the very best~

Happy birthday!

I doubt there will be any med that will make us better until they understand the genetic components better. They are just now learning about that though, only one massive study has been completed. So I'm guessing maybe by the time I'm 60 they will at leas be on agreement about it.... and then maybe when my kids are 60 there might be some type of medication that actually works.

Optimism....

Enjoy your day
