I have always had the problem with ever-changing interests in my life. However, it seems to run in cycles (which makes it really hard to throw anything out because I know I'll pick the interest up again later down the road - if even 10 years later). So, I have a music studio in my living room, a MASSIVE music collection & bookshelves full of books ranging from the Anarchist Cookbook to metaphysics to JD Salinger to Astrology to geology to music theory to art history, etc...

Here's a question - has anyone gone through periods where they aren't interested in ANYTHING? I'm going through that now. All this lovely stuff to do and hear and read, but I'm just not in the mood for any of it.

Med doc just switched me to prozac (from Viibryd) to swing the pendulum the other way, so I hope I can snap out of it soon. I'm starting to bore myself silly.

This happens to me often. I've taken up so many different hobbies over the years: knitting, scrapbooking, painting, writing, I could go on. I have mountains of books on literally any and every topic. Anything is at my fingertips to pick up again at a moments notice. But yes, despite being surrounded by any conceivable distraction you can think of, there are some periods where I feel like doing literally nothing.

During these times I do notice I get into movies much more. They're easier to consume and they don't require a lot of effort. I recently just came out of one of these periods. I may or may not have watched the same movie just about every day (sometimes more than once a day) for about two months straight.

Add my name to this list. My ex used to call it my "Hobby of the Week". I would devour everything on a topic/hobby and leave myself sitting bored having exhausted the effort and failing to find a new one to replace it.

It's probably the nature of the creative side of folks to have varied interests, also indicative of very good intelligence, I think. Enjoy them all.

Oh hell yeah, always been all over the map with the strong interests that eventually fade off and what remains are piles of whatever had caught my fancy for awhile... and yeah, I don't wanna get rid of anything because the feeling comes back and then I can finish what I started so long ago. Lather, rinse, repeat. For me, when I lose interest in it all and it's all a crashing bore is when I'm in the depression pit. Then my piles of recent excited interests join the chorus of self-defeating voices that mock everything I do and think. Damned annoying disease!

I do this too. My craft room is huge! I have anything from sewing to leather working, to scrap booking, knitting, chainmalle, drawing, plus reference books on religions, science, architecture, history, ext. The list goes on for a while. And I will always come back to it. Role Playing Games are a really big help with the constant flux of interest because they by nature fluctuate. I'm talking pen and paper ones not video games though.

But yes, I like you am feeling no draw to anything that use to interest me, or anything that does interest me now, or anything new. It's like I just don't care about it. Even my RPG addiction is being put on hold.

It will pass.

Yep, I have crafts everywhere. I am mostly into jewelry making. Lots of beads and paint and some other things. Sometimes I can go weeks without touching it and other times I cant make stuff fast enough. One of these days Ill get up the guts to go to a craft fair.

My hypomanias present with extreme interest / obsession in whatever flavour of the month hits me...

Once I come down I'm no longer remotely interested nevermind fascinated by the previous hobby or topic....

My dad always rolled his eyes when I suddenly had a new interest, bcoz he knew it was gonna cost him and sooner rather than later I'd just drop out of whatever it was without any reason other than "I dont feel like it" or "Its boring"....

I've come to understand as an adult though, that its just the nature of the bp beast

When I was over medicated I had the same problem. All I did was watch game shows, lol. My apt was a total disaster.

I love music and reading and had no interest in it. So perhaps u should see if your too medicated. Just a thought.

Holy smokes, me too!

Most recently, I went through a phase where my only interest was interior design. I obsessively read apartmenttherapy.com, thrift shopped, and rearranged my house. Admittedly, my home is absolutely incredible now, but I burned out so hard that I get bored after about two minutes on apartmenttherapy. I used to read it for hours each day...
