Would like to know how many others have been diagnosed BP or BPII later in life?

I led a normal life with dips of depression. Last year I had a hypomanic adventure for 3 months. I loved everything and everybody. Got into trouble, drank too much, spent money, tried to save a failing business..lost 15 pounds. Then, I dropped into a dark depression until DR Psych put me on some meds to climb out of the hole. I am working everyday to feel better.

I have no support system, so I am very appreciative for PC...

Hope to hear from someone. THANK YOU.
Hugs from:

Hi thumb, I was diagnosed three and a half years ago. I'm a few years more ancient than you. I've had a few situational depressions but I wasn't diagnosed with bipolar 1 until I experienced my first mania. It was severe and I went through virtually every thought and action associated with it. I was committed to a psych unit and when I got out after a week I plummeted into depression. I went back in for another week and when I was let go, I crashed even further. I was virtually catatonic. I made a serious sui attempt soon after that when I was paranoid psychotic. Meds pulled me back but I'm only just starting now to feel like my "normal" self. I'll never be 100% but I'm light years removed from where I started from. PC has been a blessing. I would never have come this far without it. Good luck to you......best.....grey

I am right behind you, thumb, at 51. I was treated for depression for years before they gave me a new dx of bp II. I am mostly depressed, but occasionally I bounce off of walls and make irrational decisions. I get very restless with life.
Welcome! You will find many friends and much support here.

Well, I'm old as dirt, but living well, I feel. You seem like youngsters to me!

Was diagnosed at 32 but stabilized with lithium. Now take only 10 mg Prozac and a food med called Deplin (15 mg), and feel balanced and calm, and watch my diet like a hawk--which helps immeasurably.
