For a long time (several years), I was unable to read books (fiction). I could not concentrate on the plot - it just would not grab me and I would continue to mull over my problems to no end.
Last week, I checked out an audio-book at the library, for the first time. 1) the commute in the car no longer feels like a total waste of time 2) problem solved 80-90% - I still sometimes "check out mentally" but most of the time, I am focused on listening to the narrator. Somehow listening to versus reading makes a HUGE difference. Back when I did not have the car and was using public transit, I would often see people glued to the screens of their Kindles, and thought that perhaps I should buy a Kindle to solve the problem, but now I think that audio-books are better - they are free from the public library and with having a car, they fill the time spent on commuting. Plus, a Kindle looks neat, but I still would need to do the job of reading on my own. |

Many people are auditory learners. My husband is a visual learner and he's never read a book since I've known him. Some people learn hands on...called a kinesthetic learner. I like to read but I like auditory tapes too. I'm glad you found a solution! That is great!

I have a Kindle that's what I use to go online with bc my computer is down. I like having a Kindle although I would rather have my computer up again. At first I was reading like a fiend and now I've stopped. I need to get back into just can't afford it. Though I'm waiting for a book from Amazon in the mail. Sometimes if it's a really good book I like to have the actual book still.

Cool Hammie, I like books on tape too (or they now call them audio books). Do they still have cassette tape books at the library or are they on cd's? I need to start driving the little car, it has a cassette player.

I will check. My car is old, but the previous owner has had a cd player installed.

That's awesome! I just discovered books on tape too! I'm more of a visual learner; so, I prefer reading. But there is nothing better than an audio book for a long ride.
