Did you have insurance? If so, be sure everything is being covered that your insurance is supposed to cover, AND be sure the hospital is honoring its contract with the insurance company as to negotiated costs. Sometimes something just gets coded wrong and they have to run it through again. I swear they do it on purpose to see if people really will notice they aren't getting their benefits.

It could be a charge entry error. Sometimes bills go out before payment comes in due to how they do their charge entry. It happens where I work all the time with co-payments. People get bills after they paid... just an idea....

Gee, I also spend so much time fighting with insurance to pay my psych bills. They keep overlooking the fact that by law they have to cover everything to do with BP. (That's the law in South Africa)

I'm so glad things got straightened out. I'm still fighting insurance to pay my son's oncology bill when he had the cyst on his neck.

Whew! Thank goodness for you!

I can imagine what a scare that was. In-hospital care is expensive stuff, no question about it.

Many hospitals here in the States are willing to work with people if they are unable to cover hospital bills. Even if you can only afford $10 a month & pay it religiously, they'll see that you're making a good faith effort to pay. I've heard that often they're willing to absolve you of bills if you pay the stated amount on a monthly schedule. Good luck to anyone who's facing this situation.
