Hi Everyone,
I read an article on PC about meditation vs medication. The article concluded that adding mediation to medication and T was best. Does anyone do this or meditation and take meds?

Often meditation has a tendency to make things worse initially.

I didn't say it doesn't work. I said that it tends to make things worse initially. Thoughts going through your mind will seem louder, and any previously suppressed emotions will tend to show up again. It can seem that symptoms are increasing and becoming more difficult to control.

I always turn to meditation when things are getting tense; it's a valve for relieving
pent-up emotions. Several sources for me: "Forgiving and Moving On" "Keep It Simple" "Around the Year With Emmet Fox" among many others. |

Helps me a ton, I also practise yoga regularly which can be viewed as moving meditation. I picked up these and got off all medication. I did not experience a getting worse before better tho, I suppose that could happen to some.. my guess is depends what type of meditation you are practising.

Focus on breathing is just one approach to meditation. Even knitting could count as meditation, depending on how you do it.

I knit weekly so that's good to know. I'll have to look into how to knit that certain way.

Knitting requires a steady focus - concentration. You have to keep track of where you are, so you have to stay in the moment. When you are good enough that you do not have to think through every step, you can just watch yourself do the knitting. Maybe it wouldn't be meditation if you did it in a group and everyone was talking, but on your own it has all the qualities of traditional meditation. The only thing missing is the name. You probably already find that it makes you feel calmer, more in control, and more peaceful.

Meditation has made a huge difference in my life. Also mindfulness techniques in other areas of life help, as well (i.e. walking, eating, cleaning). There is all kinds of info on mindfulness practice online.
