Bipolar disorder is inevitably made more complicated for females who wish or who might become pregnant. Talk about birth deffets. What if I just want to take it and use condoms as birth control? Will it make my hair fall out and my ovaries rot? Will it render me infertile?

Your hair might fall out but your ovaries won't rot or render you infertile. What depakote will do is decrease the IQ and possibly give autism to your child. I would try a different drug for sure.

Thanks for the head's up.
I am on a similar drug - Sodium Valproate - and also technically at a child bearing age. I am on BC and don't plan on having kids though. Not for now anyway

Depending on the age, Depakote may also increase the risk of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Your ovaries won't rot, but it can make getting pregnant more difficult. I have PCOS (not Depakote related) and I can't take Depakote.
