My Pdoc Rxed Lunesta but I find Melatonin works so much better and of course it's cheaper. The only problem is it gives me the worst dreams. The last time I took it I dreamed that my face peeled off. It was very graphic and weird.

If I keep taking it will the dreams get better?

I have had very vivid dreams on melatonin as well. Apparently it was because I wasn't taking the right dose for me. Have you talked to your doctor about the dreams? He coudl suggest another dose and you can see how it works for you.

I take Klonopin at night for anxiety, but it's also a dandy sleep aid.

You don't take Zyprexa, do you? I understand that can cause vivid dreaming.

I use, frankly, the essential Omega 3 fatty acids for calming the system before bedtime.
That, combined with an aspirin, works most of the time.

If I have a particularly high acid load I will take .5 mg Clonazepam (Klonopin) which
works strongly, but leaves a groggy side effect for me.

The problem with melatonin, I've been told, is that it is good for about 3 months. Beyond that, it isn't effective for some people.

I only take .5 milligrams of it, I'm a lightweight

Years ago I took Klonopin. I can't remember the dose. It was the lowest dose you could get and I still cut it into 4 pieces and only took 1 piece a night, lightweight I tell you. It worked great at first and then it got to the point where I was sleepy all the time. My family dr said it had something to do with the half life of it. She said the dose was building up in my system. Anyway it took me forever to wean off of it. Once I did I was awake and alert during the day again.

I take Benadryl sometimes and it's pretty effective, but I don't know if it's something you can take on a regular basis -I've been planning on asking my pdoc because I'm not sure if it interacts somehow with my other meds.

I also take Benadryl at night during normal times, but when I'm hypomanic I often have real trouble staying asleep; 3-4 hours sleep for an extended period of time makes for real trouble. At those times I'll take a small dose (25-50 mg) of Seroquel to help me stay asleep.

I used to take Tylenol PM pretty much nightly. It was starting to lose its effectiveness and when I found myself needing a double dose to get it to keep working I stopped taking it altogether. This was about 2 months ago.

However, the reason it had lost effectiveness could also have been because I was in a manic episode a few months ago and not much would have helped.

Normally though, it did work well. Before that I took an OTC called Simply Sleep. It was amazing, but I don't know if they make it anymore or not.

Klonopin no longer works for me.

I have Lunesta at 3 MG per dose. It works pretty well. They tried Ambien first but no luck with that.

I tried all of the over the counters, melatonin, etc too and no luck forever so I have no choice but to do the prescriptions now.

I used to take lunesta prior to dx in Feb, prescribed by my family dr. It worked very well, however no generic and VERY expensive. My internal dr and psychiatrist did not approve of that. I currently take Temazepam 15mg. I usually have restless sleep after 4 hrs or so. It "kicks in" for me about 30 min after I take it. I was on .5mg of seroquel and that worked very well and throught the night. I'm hoping to get back on that soon.
