I have a difficult time functioning to do my job and I feel an overwhelming desire to talk about it. Does anyone else go through this? ARe there drugs to help quell these desires? I feel Im going crazy.

Let me start by saying I know nothing abt BPD. This is a bipolar forum. I can answer your question but its in respect bipolar dx. During mania the sex drive is through the roof. I took Risperdal it's a AP, and it really helped. It can make you gain weight. I sympathize with you, I've been where you are.

The sex drive is considered a natural part of being human and is not diagnosed as a
mental disorder, but who's to say that an overly strong sex drive might not be part
of a hypomanic episode? You'll just have to rely on self-restraint to manage it unless your psychiatrist has a medication that will calm the situation for you, in my view.

I also forgot to mention hypersexual is listed in many bipolar symptom literature. I attend a support group w/ three other women w/ bipolar. And they also deal w/ hypersexual symptom.

Yes, my Dr. told me BP can cause periods of extreme libido. (I've had that.) He also told me that hypersexuality is associated a lot with children that are victims of sexual abuse. I've read actress Mariette Hartley's bio and she suffered from hypersexuality between 13-15. (My Doc spent most of career at Institute of Pennsylvania, highly influential Psych Hospital since 1850.)

(JFK's sister suffered from that, unfortunately. And even worse was that Joe Kennedy heard of a new procedure called a "lobotomy" and wanted it performed on her asap. And it failed miserably.)

I'm old enough to remember when kids were threatened with going blind or being sent to Hell for masturbating. As far as I know, it didn't stop boys, and it didn't stop hypersexed girls either; I used to feel terribly guilty for doing it, but I've still got some eyesight left and I'll let the Lord decide where I'm headed.

That said.......I don't know if this helps, but when I'm hypo/manic I turn into a tigress! I think about sex anytime and anyplace, and sometimes I can have an orgasm just imagining it. I went through a long period during perimenopause when I didn't care if I ever had sex again, and now I wish I could. My husband hasn't been able to have an erection in years, so I do a lot of 'self-gratification' and thank Heaven that I'm not tempted to go out looking (nobody wants a saggy, baggy old woman anyway). I've never been unfaithful to him, nor will I ever be, even if the opportunity were to present itself.......but ohhhh, sometimes I wish!!

I have this problem. My husband has a hard time keeping up. It has caused many fights. Sometimes I wish I could just say no, but I can't. Sucks.
