I think having bipolar disorder makes me prone to being waaay more angrier than the average Joe. I have to remind myself that it is a mood disorder and that I have to learn to control it. I came across an article that gave me a simple, straightforward approach to dealing with it--Retreat-Rethink-Respond. Believe it or not, it does help me. During aggravating situations I find myself repeating it in my head. It doesn't always help because there are times when I will say the first thing that pops into my head which I regret later. But it's a start.

How do you respond to anger? What is your recipe for dealing with it?

I channel it towards people I don't know.

But I have problems with that too.

I like it, too. It really causes one to pause and control the anger---maybe diluting or even killing it.

... I think I adapted that mantra for myself a long long long time ago. Without those words.

When I'm angry I try really hard to not express it. I'll retreat from the conversation and refrain from talking about it until I've got myself sorted out. And then I'll talk about it again.

I often go 'I'm really upset right now because of X" and try to make that very clear. I'll aslo ask if we can talk about it later because I'm too upset to think straight. People who respect that always end up having me no longer that upset... and people who don't respect that end up having me blow up at them!

Taking notes. I need to learn to control my anger. I am never violent but I am like a fussy cat that gets cornered. : (. RRR.
