I've got into the habit of asking my psychiatrist "if he had to what would he take (med wise)?" I think this has been the most useful question I have to ask. Has anyone asked any similar questions to their pdoc ?

Yes, I've asked the that question several times. Usually find I was leaning the same way anyway, so it made me feel better.

Great idea! I'm always baffled when shrinks give me like three meds to choose from and having me pick one...

When my pdocs do that, and they do, I look them in the eye, and tell them that I didn't go to med school, and I will have to rely on there knowledge, however, I do research what they are putting me on.

I have asked my Pdoc that before. Hes given me very honest answers. Him and I agree together what medications I have ever tried and I research each med to death before I will even consider it. Yes I trust my Pdoc totally , but I still have to know the ins and outs of any chemical I decide to take.

I'm definitely going to ask mine, but I know his answer is going to be 'I'm just trying to keep you well' he's good at sidetracking

I haven't ... But a helpful pdoc while son was inpatient told me, "if he were my child I would choose this combo..." Eased my mind I was so distraught and concerned about the dangers and effects of psych med for a developing child. Hard hard decisions.

I have asked my pdoc. I want their honest opinion. And I want them to give me their best advice

I have not often specifically asked my pdoc about what meds he would take, but we have frequently discussed options and I usually research them. I actually told him that Lamictal can influence the effectiveness of birth control and he didn't know that. He'll tell me that some drugs are still in the "popular" phase. I know both of my parent have or are taking Celexa, and that is a comfort. He has given me his personal opinion though.
