I know I have been complaining over the last couple of months about not being able to find a new therapist after my long-time one moved. Number 1 always appeared to be sleeping while I talked. Number 2 said that my best option is prayer (not knocking prayer, but I don't need to pay for this!) and now, tonight, I have a new one to meet with.
This time I called only psychologists, although I didn't have a long list considering my insurance and that I only want to work with a female. What I have found with a couple of return calls is that some don't want to work with bp/mood disorders. It seems to me that in psychology training, mood disorders would be a main course of study. Maybe all of these doctors just want the easy stuff, I don't know.
Oh well, wish me luck. Maybe 3 is the lucky number!

That's odd. I find psychologists are better for me as a T in general.

Good luck. They say 3 time is the charm, right? I hope so!

Good luck! I wonder why so many dont want to work with mood disorders. Seems that clientele would be most of a therapist's business. How annoying!

I agree, FM. This is why I was so surprised to get two calls from psychologists saying that bp was not an area they were comfortable with. Anyway, today's session was very good. The psychologist was very thorough, much better than my last two experiences. The only negative is that she likes to do testing-a couple of ones, I forget the names. I am hoping that I have already had at least one of these. I am having the records sent from my pdoc's and first psychologist's offices.
It was nice to work with a professional today.

even if you had these tests this psychologist probably will want to do them again. My psychologist morning to do these tests so she knew how to best approach my issues. It was a way to get to know me and how my brain works. I told her no because I was scared of it. honestly I think if I did the test a couple months would not be wasted by to much embarrassment but the trust would be there still. its a way to get a lot of Acurate information fast and highlight the clients issues that they may not be aware of.

I understand what you mean about the testing. Like you, I get very apprehensive about testing. I told her this and she said that the choice is mine, but it will help with treatment. On one hand, I am glad she is so thorough, but on the other I will be anxious for days until these are over. She asked that I not look the tests up on the internet-I told her there was no problem with that, since I couldn't remember the names of the tests as soon as she told me!

Hi BM
I really hope you 2 are a good fit.
Please try not to stress yourself out about the tests, its a great tool in getting aquainted with a new client and will also give an educated indicator on where to start VS where you're at.

Thanks for this!

I'll bet that the therapists who are uncomfortable with BP probably won't take schizophrenic or BPD clients either. They are probably hesitant to deal with anything that could involve psychosis.

Just a thought.
