I normally try really hard to not overanalyze my moods. I try to just roll with it and tell myself it'll pass. And even now, that's what I'm still trying to do.

But on Tuesday my doctor put me on Paxil and told me that I should be careful of it turning me manic. The trouble is, and I guess the trouble ALWAYS is, how do you know when you're IN it??

Right now I just feel like I'm in a great mood. Like a GREAT mood. On the walk into work this morning I said good morning to everyone I saw. (I can't even express enough how unusual this is for me.) Last night I cleaned the house. And I mean like, scrub the walls clean. At the same time, normal things that would really grate on me, just aren't today. I just can't be bothered. (Which is also weird for me.)

Last night: slept 12:30 to 4:30... and then a 45 minute "nap" before my alarm went off at 7. It was similar the night before that. (Oh... I should also add that the "good morning I'm in a great mood" walk into work was before I had any coffee.)

I told my husband last night that I cleaned our daughters room (me... being a packrat and the exact opposite of a neat-freak) and he says "isn't that a manic thing?". But...

Anyway. I know it's different for everyone. And a while ago I lost my bank card, so I can't overspend... so I don't really have to worry about that. (That's USUALLY my hypo/manic go-to.)

So... how do YOU tell the difference?

I hear ya. that's the way it is for me too. Every single time I get into a good mood or try something new, it's always, "be careful of getting hypo." Like it's a choice or something.

I think about things like this a lot. there are people at concerts, jumping up near the stage, going round and round in the maush pits... are they all manic too? Ha! Doubt that. So what then, we can't be like other excited people? ugh... it's always the same old story for us. No fun, cuz we get accused of being manic... or Hypomanic in my case.

Sorry to rant on your post.. but yeah, I get it.

Well, it's not easy for me to know if I'm just normal with a good mood, or hypomanic.
Usually, if I'm hungry I'm normal, and if I feel full I'm depressed or hypomanic. But... this isn't always valid after eating or after a long period without eating, so...

I'd say "Yes you sound like you might be hypomanic". I'd say it's at least worth a call to the doc!

Like.. that sounds a lot like me when I'm hypo. Like absolutely spot-on.

Of course this will always happen on a Friday.. I agree call your Pdoc,

If it were me I would skip the Paxil over the weekend and see how it goes.

The way I tell the difference is.... is it an unhealthy thing? If it lasts longer than a week and you're doing things obsessively, I'd say it's a problem. If it's helping you function, it sounds like it's a godsend!!!
