Living with Bipolar is still a very new concept to me and I am stuck trying to figure out where the bipolar ends and I begin. One of these topics that comes up quite regularly is sex.

I have a nearly nonexistent sex drive 70% of the time. This often makes my girlfriend think that I am not attracted to her which certainly is not the case. I just do not want sex. Is this a symptom of bipolar or is this another issue altogether?

It could be depression, it could be caused by meds, or it could be another issue entirely. It is something you should bring up with your doctor because it can be a huge issue in a relationship. I would also suggest that you bring your girlfriend along to see your T or pdoc when you discuss this issue so that she can hear from someone else that it's not her fault. This is something that a significant other can internalize especially if they have their own issues they are dealing with.

I am the wife of a man living with bipolar and his sex drive remains through the roof at all times. I have heard this stated from others with bipolar also. I will let someone more knowledgeable answer this for certain. Hang in there. Glad you are here.

I think it's different from all of us.

When I'm in a depression I don't want to even THINK about sex, even though I'll want closeness. When I'm hypomanic I'm up for having sex all the time.
