When I take over the counter cold medicine, if the bottle says "puts you to sleep" it wakes me up. If the bottle says "it will keep you awake" I get drowsy.
I also can't take demerol. The last time I had demerol was in 1991 when I had arthroscopy done on my knee. I got my shot and when the nurses came to get me I was sitting up in bed and reading 6 magazine all at once. The nurses asked me why I wasn't sleeping. They only use a local anesthetic for the procedure and I kept sitting up wanting to see what the doctor was doing. They had to find two orderlies to hold me down while the doctor did the arthroscopy. ??? ![]()

Sorry, I am not on meds, or anything-- but I do know some times over the counter meds can react with other meds, and also just with a person if they aren't talking anything just due to One's individual make up...
just something to maybe think of? just like some people, coffee doesn't perk and wake them up but yet they are "fine" just that coffee doesn't have the same effect as others..., or even weed doesn't get everyone high like the giggly way. Maybe these things in the over the counter meds effect you differently. Some over the counter meds also can effect people with high blood pressure and diabetes, even if they aren't taking meds for those things. hopefully some one else can hop on and give more advice.
