In this past week I've heard two different things. I heard my mom say my name as I was heading into the bathroom and I turned around and no one was there. Then a couple nights ago I heard my dad yelling but I knew he was in bed sleeping.

There are multiple reasons why this could happen, and I need to know if this is something I should tell the doctor.

1. I've heard things on lithium and zyprexa before, but not for months.
2. I've started wellbutrin a month ago, and anti-depressants caused my manic episode, but so far I have not experienced any negative side effects.
3. I've smoked weed within a day or two of hearing things.
4. I've drunk 2-4 glasses of wine a few times the past week and a half.
5. I just started my second week of college and have been very stressed out.

I guess what I'm really wondering is, is this bipolar-related, stress-related, or substance-related, or a combination of things, and should I tell the doctor?

Have you had aural hallucinations before?

My aural hallucinations don't involve people I know. They don't seem to be related to any particular mood or anxiety level. They just happen intermittently.

I might suspect the combination of the weed with your other meds.

I think you should definitely tell your doctor. I have a bipolar 1 and was really upset when I first started hallucinating. But my doctor just reassured me that its a normal symptom of bipolar. He might want to put you on AP to help with your symptoms. Hope things look up for you soon.

If these are very distressing to you then certainly talk to your Pdoc ..If it's not freaking you out just pull a wait and see what happens, They could have been caused by any combo of things .. It is good you are able to list all the possibilites !

Are the wine and pot in the last two weeks a new habit? I am not sure if either or both interact with the meds you are taking. Perhaps others on the forum know, but I would definitely talk to your pdoc. Mine told me to not drink at all ideally or drink moderately at most. I have found that I don't want much alcohol and I suspect that I used it in the past to self-medicate anxiety. I feel very fortunate that it didn't develop into another issue to deal with.
