I filed for chapter 7 today. It's long and complex. Will take four months. I want to OD so bad. On top of it all I have to have my pdoc write a letter saying I can't work in addition to I'm bipolar and take x meds. If she won't I can't get rid of $20k of my debt. I'm so nervous and depressed.

I've been through bankruptcy twice---both as a result of what my son-in-law calls my "bipolar shopping" habits. And now I'm going to have to file yet again because of all the medical bills my husband and I are running up because of his cancer and my BP.

You know what? It's temporary. It sucks, but when you get right down to where the cheese binds, money problems aren't all that. Bill collectors can hassle you, but they can't kill you or put you in jail. Bankruptcy can be an embarrassing experience, but a LOT of people who hold a higher place on the socio-economic food chain than you do have had to file too.

And if you can't work, you can't work. Your pdoc shouldn't have a problem writing a letter stating that fact; if she won't do it, find one who will.

You can survive this---it isn't worth OD'ing over, or possibly screwing yourself up so bad that you wind up in a nursing home. Trust me on this one. Please take care.

I'm sorry that's gotta be rough. I know it's gonna be a long 4 months but you will make it. I really hope things go as smooth as possible for you. Good luck and I am here if you need to talk.

You will be okay, my husband and I are also going bankrupt. You are not alone. There are others out there who live through this everyday. Stay strong.

It's just money. It's not worth doing something drastic over. I know it's horrible not to have it, but really, they can't get blood from a stone. We are with you. A lot of us have been there and survived.

Back in December I signed up with a debt solutions company.
It isn't bankruptcy, they get reduced amounts on all my debts. I pay them a set monthly amount and they decide how to use it to pay of my debt.

This debt is from my manic spending and it is the second time I had to do it. Until all my debt is payed off my credit is in the toilet. Fortunately this was all in my name and does not affect my husbands credit.

I am so embarrassed and ashamed about it. I thought I learned from the first time.

Have you tried to get disability ?

I went through a devestating financial situation last year...we had to move cross country and the beautiful home we owned on the west coast was upside-down. we couldnt rent it for what we paid monthly and over the course of a year (due in part to my inability to get a teaching job in my new state), we almost went bankrupt too. We had to short sale and I spent about 4 months feeling like I was the worlds biggest f***ing loser/failure. I felt worse than worthless. I let it crush me and have just now clawed my way back to the surface. I can breath again and accept myself.

My hope for you is that you don't allow yourself to feel like I did. Evaluate how you got into the situation and see if you can just make some life changes so it doesn't happen again. Thats all you can do. Live your life like you matter because you DO!

I am sorry to hear about your BF. I am not sure the circumstances but that can be tough...no advice there.

Hugs...it will be ok.

I bought a health food store in October 2004, and I filed for personal and corporate bankruptcy in July 2005. It's not the end of the world. In 2008 they repossessed my SUV because I got fired from another job. Not the end of the world either. S*** happens. And life goes on.

I saw this documentary on Netflix about one of the books of the law of attraction. Is no ****. I been doing this for a while without intention. And thus crap does work. If you keep expecting debt, debt will come. You run into the same behaviors cuz you think about them. Change. Think of something new. Think of what you want, visualize it!!! Like dream it up!

Hey Moose!
I have been through similar circumstances, and I guess I am in them now with the fact that we have a house that is being foreclosed on. I just completely ignore it, though. No filings for me/us (actually husband's credit, I have none!) I am letting nature take its course. Maybe it is the bp, maybe it is the fact that I don't give a s.....t. I will never let my screw up with finances control my mental state. I have enough trouble dealing with this brain as it is!
It's best Moose to spend more time working on your friendship, this is what really matters in life!
Many Hugs,
Bluiemountains
