Hi everyone. I am new to this site...just found it and it looks great!
Anyway, my husband is bipolar. I really need advice on how to deal with his mood swings, anxiety, etc. I am at my wit's end and don't know what to do! Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. |

Hi there bird nerd,
Just wanted to say I am glad that you are doing some research about bipolar. There is a slew of information on the net as you have probably have found out. Don't know if this is a new diagnosis for him? I hope you have some family support and friends. There are usually support groups associated with the local hospitals...call and you may find a real group to join along with for additional support. Write more when you feel up to it. I am 43 and female...hubby and i ahve been married 12 years ...he has seen me at my worst. WE try to develop our strengths...and work as a team. Have you gone to couples counseling or individual? A neutral party can help you guys figure it out. I wish there was some easy answer to this. I am sorry there is not. This is a life long diagnosis with hopefully remissions and stability along the way. Getting the right medication is so important so this will take time. keep writing, asking, journaling.... take care of your self as well. bizi __________________ 150mg of lamictal 2x a day haldol 5mg 2x a day 1mg of cogentin 2x a day klonipin , 1mg at night, 4-5 peri-colace for chronic constipation multi vit,, vit c, at noon, tumeric, caffeine at noon PRN Remeron 15mg at night, zyprexa10mg under tongue, requip2mg. |

Try to locate a family-to-family class through NAMI (National Alliance of the Mentally Ill) where they will educate you about the disease & offer help. They also have support groups for family members. I' the one with bipolar (been married 32 yrs.--just diagnosed 5 yrs. ago) & education has helped my relationship with my husband very much. I just gave him an article from bp magazine that had to do with how sensitive bp's can be to criticism or hurtful words. I reacted badly to some comments from my husband about my weight gain & overdosed about 6 weeks ago. He found the article very helpful & hugged me after he read it & said that he loved me. I needed that!--Suzy
