You should have received something from your pharmacy with detailed med information when you got your prescription. If not, then ask your pharmacist for the info sheet.

From my medical laboratory background, I can tell you that you may need to have periodic blood levels drawn, and also liver function testing. Its trade name in the US is Depakote, so you may be able to find more info under that name than valproic acid.

From a bipolar background, I was on it a long time ago and it certainly helped me with my manias, but also flatlined me emotionally. However, I also tend to dissociate some, so that may have been a factor. But I do remember having a flat mood even when I wasn't dissociating.

But again, get some info from your pharmacist.

That's the information I need. Thanks! I should have specified. I have a bad habit of not asking what I need or want in a direct way.... I basically just wanted to know what it does to some of you. So I will know what I might can expect..

I took Depakote for quite awhile. It was so-so in terms of helping my mood, but it gave me a God-awful tremor that only went away AFTER I stopped it and was off it for awhile.
Thanks for this!
