Has someone ever said to you that you are "acting psycho, bipolar, mental, etc?? Does it make you as angry as it makes me? I have anger issues but I want to punch someone in the face when they say stuff like that. I also hate when someone says, "Did you forget to take your medications today?" ARE YOU SERIOUS????
Thanks for this!

no one who would say things like that to me knows my diagnosis.

The people who WOULD say things like that to me (my family) will never, ever, know my diagnosis. As it is I get things like delusional, crazy, oversensitive, etc etc from them. Even when I am being particularly calm in the face of their horrid behaviours.

I have, even before being on meds, been asked if I took my meds. If someone says that, or asks/assumes that I am PMSing I will in fact flip out because it's minimizing, invalidating and condescending. (if it was a PMS comment I will then go TMI and inform them that I'm typically a lot more pleasant during those weeks!)

My boyfriend does it jokingly but sometimes I can tell he means it. Usually he'll say "you're crazy today" or "you're acting weird today" sometimes he means it in a cute way...sometimes he means I need to get my **** together and stop being so erratic. It depends on the mood I'm in whether is makes me angry or not. Usually I just end up sad and feel bad about myself that I'm so crazy.

Thanks!! I need to take a breather and focus on something else. And being on here sometimes is a trigger for me so I will read. But thank you both for commenting and I will be back tomorrow hopefully with a more positive outlook on life and my relationships.

I was talking to my cousin once because being upset. He asked me if I took my medication today. It made me SO angry.

Does it bug anyone when they use it in the wrong area? Like that's a schizophrenic scale, or the weather is bipolar. Even to the point of he is acting so bipolar.

Does that bug you too? It bugs me to the point where I use it purposely.

best,

Lilly

It really grinds my gears when people falsely accuse my mental state of mind. Just because I have a diagnoses people may think I'm manic all the time because I have temper tantrums and melt downs, but they don't last very long which clearly indicts that I'm not currently in mania.

My boyfriend does this. Whenever I say something he doesn't like he says "Are you sure you're thinking clearly? It's probably just you being Bipolar" It really irritates me that it's used against me like that, like I can't have a mind of my own and I am my diagnosis or something. This just happened a few minutes ago. He doesn't say it meanly, more out of actual concern but still.

My boyfriend and family ask if I complain. Or suggest I see my pdoc.

My boyfriend never brings up medication unless I drank that night and I can only stand about 2 drinks of low alcohol content. He is also good at getting me to admit my moods before pulling mental illness card.

I just hate that he's always right...u.u

I guess I have grown a thicker skin... My husband might ask me if I am okay .. Like today I feel a bit off ... A few people have pulled the " did you take your meds today" I just ignore ignorance .. I have enough real issues to be upset about .. There questions remarks or other stupid things I just don't pay attention to.

But thats just me

First thing that is asked here is "Did, you take your meds?" when either of us are acting irrational because yes missing medication can screw things up, especially more than 1 day. Usually when friends joke about it they get shoved and told "No, did you???" or "I don't know. Your the one hanging out with the crazy person. So which one of us are saner?"

All of the words (psycho, bipolar, mental, etc.)mean out of range of societies 'normal'. That's how you get Dx'd. So it's societies antonym for weird and I don't get upset.

but I take most everything as a joke so.

Haha I get this all the time. It doesnt anger me, usually I respond that they havent even seen bipolar yet so they should consider themselves lucky My partner tries to be helpful at times when I do get upset by asking is this magnified by my mental illness. Sometimes I get annoyed with that, but not angry. Not every emotion is related to my mental illness, and that is hard to get through to people at times.

People ask if I have taken my meds all the time too, but it comes from a place of caring. There are some days when I am more emotional, and sometimes I do forget to take my meds. It annoys me more when my meds alarm goes off and my partner pinches my bum until I take them! Usually I just want to wait til the ad break to get them lol.
